2018 SI Coupe. Just noticed my oil life says 50% with just 1500 miles. Wondering if there is a time element that affects the MM. Car sat unused in my garage all winter. Does this seem out of the ordinary or perfectly normal? Thanks for any insight.

Seems normal. I don’t drive my Si much and my last MM was down to 15% after 2700 miles, but it was almost a year. My thought is oil changes are cheap insurance. You can never change it too much.

60% on my Type R with <800 miles. Those miles were mostly the interstate drive back from the dealership where i bought it. Then it sat in the garage all winter with a few starts to get fluids up to temperature and avoid flat spots.

fuck the mm. for us older dudes we never had that stupid ass shit in the 90s or early 00s and our hondas ran for 200k plus miles.

just change your oil every 5k miles regardless of what that shit says, and youll be fine.

I'm an older guy (probably changing my own oil before a lot of you were born lol) and find the MM to be quite good. I honestly think the 5,000 mile rule really varies. Oil will look a lot different with 5,000 highway miles versus 5,000 stop and go miles, right?

My MM usually comes up at around 4,500 miles with my 60/40 highway/city mix.

Just did the first change at 4k. Bought it June '18 so almost 12 months. Also had the car in the garage for the winter and would have changed it next month regardless of oil life at the 1 year mark. MM just hit 15%. Maybe there's a time element in MM.

Umm but a lot of older Honda’s did. A green tab in the cluster would turn red notifying you the car was due for an oil service. You would use you key to depress the tab.

Sounds like time is a factor. I drive 20k a year so have no first hand experience. Seems most manufacturers say to change yearly whether you’re at the marker or not.

I do change at 5k as with the oil dilution problems, I’m not risking it with going longer.

Oil breaks down over time. Maintenance intervals are based on time and usage. Which ever limit arrives first. You should definitely change your oil if it's been sitting all winter.

Thanks for the input everyone. Plan to change it at the one year mark even if milage is still relatively low. That would be October for me. Before I parked it for the winter MM said 90%.

At 300 miles total on the car it's still at 100%. It's either not working or I drive like an old man.
