Hi all,

I have (finally) got around to installing my dash cam after many months sitting in its box since changing cars - many thanks to the guys on here for the info for getting a negative near the fusebox, however....

I've picked at least three fuses now where I know they are only live when the car is in accessory or started but they seem to stay live when I connect the add a fuse!?! One last attempt I tried the fuse for the radio - that one stopped the radio going off with the key out! I tried turning the add a fuse round in case I was being a bit stupid but that makes no difference.

I have hardwired this cam before with the same kit in my previous civic, am I missing something or has anyone got any ideas on things to try please :(

Cheers,

Mike

Did you use a voltmeter to make sure the power to the fuse goes off in Accessory mode? Maybe they stay live for a few minutes after shutting the car off.

Look at the manual. All the fuses with the round brackets on the ampere rating are always on while those without are on with the ignition. I just hardwired a dashcam over the weekend and tested all the fuses and compared with the manual and realized Honda actually differentiate the fuses in the manual although I wished they had added a note to actually tell you.

Re your specific issue, are you looking at the correct fuses? You need to match them up by number and while there are markings for the positions on either end, they are tiny.

Also, the add-a-circuit fuse taps need to be oriented correctly to be able to work. In my RHD Civic, the +ve terminal for the fuses was the upper terminal (I am assuming the LHD Civic is just a mirror image although I could be wrong). That means the fuse tap goes in with the connection to the dashcam pointing down. You should be able to check with a test pen. Hope this makes sense.

Edit: For typos

This is really good to know, saves me time from testing it :). I do notice the ACC 10 (first one from the left side) doesn't have any parenthesis. I have my dash cam plugged into a cigarette plug at the moment, but now I can hard wire it into this fuse :)

What about a fuse that is on when a door is open? what can i look for? I want to install some lighted up door trims.

Hello I think I’m missing something what does the parentheses have to do with the fuse number maybe that’ll help me hardwire mine too I was going to use fuse 1 10a and a 5a for the dash cam side for the constant power, is that what you’re doing.

I believe you mean ground, just wire that to an exposed metal surface on the car's body. There is a spot next to the internal fuse box with a bolt, I used that for the ground connection. Take note that you can only get to this with the plastic trim removed though.

I had mine connected with an Add-a-fuse to the 'smart entry' 10A fuse slot...but I have noticed because of this my dash cam wasn't turning off when I turn off my car ever, and this might have been the real cause for my battery getting drained to empty (also cause I don't drive that often, just twice a week usually). So as much as I like the security mode of my dash cam, I need to find another fuse slot that will power off with my car to avoid a dead battery.
