It will have premature wear due to oil dilution.
If you already have one, change the oil more frequently than recommended.

According to Scotty, always put the right amount of oil in it. This one takes 4.7 quarts. Sure it does if you want it overfilled by a quart.
This guys nuttier than a fruitcake.
Apparently the car he was servicing wasn't a 1.5 liter turbo. It was a 2.4 liter N.A. CRV. It takes more oil.

Yeah, clearly that isn't a 1.5 turbo.

While most of his stuff is accurate, he uses a lot of exaggeration.

the quantities specified in your manual are estimates, and are rarely ever accurate, i ignore them completely, trust your dipstick,

i have done literally thousands of oil changes in my time, a combination of work and personal vehicles, i started my career working at a "jizzy lube" back in the 90's doing 20+ oil changes 5 days a week for 3 years,

i pay no attention to what the manual says as far as quantity goes,

a perfect example.....

i did my first oil change in my 2018 2.0L only a few weeks ago, specs say it should take 4.2L.....when all was said and done, mine ended up taking about 4.7-4.8L

what scotty is saying is most likely correct

I only go by the dipstick. You can use the manual to check how much oil to buy.

These engines could probably run on 0W16 (available at your Walmart store) at least without oil dilution. They will also run just as well on 5W30. So I'm not worried about oil dilution, but even without Scotty's advice I'm changing the civic's oil before the MM tells me.

My 2009 CR-V's oil after 8000 miles looks cleaner than my civicx oil after 3000 miles. The blackness is mostly soot and it I believe it mostly comes from exhaust. I don't smell gas in the oil as much as I smell exhaust. I've been changing the CR-V oil by the MM which is usually more than 10,000 miles. The oil looks so good that I don't have any temptation to change it early. This engine (K24Z iVTEC) also takes 0W20, although 5W20 was specified when it was made. It's now at 120 kmiles. 20 weight oil is already old today. Nothing extraordinary.

Some engines make the oil black quickly and some don't. I've seen both kinds before. Blackness itself doesn't mean much at all and I would never throw away synthetic oil at less than 5000-6000 miles of normal driving.

He’s right though - I’m glad I leased mine- this dilution issue may not bode well for long term reliability of these engines - mine goes back in 2 years

Scotty is in over his head these days. all I see when his videos are posted is an ignorant old man yelling at the kids. I move to ban all future Scotty videos from this site

I wouldn't lose any sleep over what Scooter is saying. Yes the 1.5 has dilution to a minimal extent just as most if not all direct injection turbos have. There have been a few reported cases of extreme dilution filling the oil pan with gas which is extremely rare. All of the posted oil analysis have shown no excessive wear thus far.

I am leasing my car and have no hesitation in buying it out when the time comes. I live in a cold climate and still have no concerns. Keep the revs up in winter, drive it hard occasionally and change the oil in a conservative timeframe.

I wouldn't even consider trading this for a 2.0 for my personal reassurance. 23 lbs of boost is much more fun.

why?

because he speaks the truth and tells it like it is?

I don't get all the hate for him, he is correct

let me guess, you have a 1.5L?

sounds to me like you just don't want to hear the truth about those engines,

don't get mad at, or blame Scotty for the problems, get mad at, and blame Honda for them!!

before i bought my 2018 i did zero research on the civic engines,

all my civics in the past have been excellent, so i just assumed this one will be also,

now after reading about the 1.5L, i consider myself very lucky, very fortunate, and i am very glad that i ended up with a 2.0L
I have a 6speed 2.0 lx and all my other cars are pre1990....i hate his voice it's like nails on a chalkboard to me and he really just says the same thing over and over. It's common sense he's not a great mechanic. Less moving parts = less problems less electronics= less failure rate..omg he's s genius. No..but you enjoy his videos this is :patriot:

never said i enjoyed them, i also never said i disliked them,

all im saying is he is normally correct about what he is saying.....and that includes what he says about the 1.5L
but he isnt correct, he is a bloviating douchecanoe with a following as dumb as he is. Again, if you watch him for anything other than purely entertainment value, you are losing brain cells and getting dumber about cars.....no offense meant :)

he is wrong.
60k on my 18 si tuned tsp1. mm oil changes since new. usually more than 10k per oil change. regularly autocross and occasional track day.(its not babied) no smoke. no compression low. no oil usage. minimal rise in oil due to fuel dilution. oil tests show fuel in the oil but never enough to bring down the ability of the oil to lubricate.
he is talking out of his @$$.

Honestly, I don't care what Scotty thinks. Unless he owns a 1.5 turbo all his talk is nothing but blowharded-ness.

What he doesn’t know is not all earth dream technology engines are direct injection. My 2.0 earth dreams I-vtec is port injection.
