I received the R 1.5 weeks ago and got it into the shop this week. The first major mod is the stereo system, it just sucks IMO. I'm upgrading the front speakers and subwoofers. Here's a list of the parts that went in
- Focal KX2 speakers
- SQL soundmat
- Audison 8" subwoofer
- Mosconi D2 100. DSP
- Rockford Fosgate T400x2

The signal coming out of the factory headunit is really poor, I had to add a dsp. I'm running the speakers active and off the Mosconi amp. The rear speakers are stock and remain untouched. The factory subwoofer enclosure was stuffed and the outer enclosure was wrapped in sound deadening. We still need to tune it but so far it sounds amazing.

I really envy you, that looks awesome. I'd like to find a reputable installer to do something like this but after visiting a few shops in my area I'm turned off from what I saw/general discussions I had. I'm not that handy with cars, especially electronics, and I'm not eager to try and learn on the CTR

I'm the same way. I'd like to find some place to install a good upgrade for the stock stereo system but I'm sure the labor would be quite high plus the few I've seen look kinda shady.

I fortunately work for a shop and would be in the same boat if I didn't. Don't want a rookie trying to figure out how to hook up an amp on my car. I would pay more for experience and piece of mind my baby will be ok.

Very nice setup! I went with a similar path as I did a Jl Audio 8w3 sub, Audison SR5 amp, Audison Bitone, and Audison Voce's 6.5 running active as well with dynamat extreme. I absolutely love the way it sounds. I am sure yours is very similar!

That must sound amazing with the bitone. I would upgrade to the bitone if I change the rear speakers in the future.

Out of curiosity how loud are you listening to your music? I hear people complain it sucks but I have never had an issue. I also never blast music or get lots of bass either

Is it necessary to put a dsp in with the sub or can I just upgrade my sub and there still would be a big difference?

I personally like my music loud and clear. On the stock system, I could hear the distortion kick in around 26. If you turn up the volume to 30, it feels like the speakers will break.

The sub has been upgraded by many members and it's one of the easiest ways to improve the system. You do not need a dsp for the sub.
For those looking for an economical upgrade, he's what I would suggest:
- upgrade the factory 8" sub and use the factory enclosure
- upgrade the door woofers, factory tweeters are pretty good
- add 4 channel amp, bridge 2 ch to sub and 1 each to woofers

What we did with the rears is kept them oem and he is going to add a very small amp to drive them so my kids can have a little sound in the rear. Otherwise I keep the stage up front which is the best way to do it.

o_O I guess I've never listened loud. To me, 18-20 is blasting.

Setup looks great BTW
