So what are second hand Type r's selling for in the states? Over here we have seen some as low as £24k which is pretty crap seeing as many of our 3 year lease deals will be up in 18 months and be good to have some equity!!

The B18c5 never changed specs in North America at all. It was always rated at 195 hp and even the engine code never changed- if it had different cams, it would have a different number at the end... like B18c6, or something... but that never happened in North America.

Japan had two versions of that particular engine, but they dropped the “5” off the end- which made things super confusing because the GS-R and Type R engine blocks were stamped with the same B18c code. But that power bump was more related to the final drive in the transmission being changed, I thought, not the cams.
B18C6 was in UK/European ITR. Bare blocks were the same. Heads were different with different manifolds/cams. Different compression (pistons).

Lol 50k, no way, that’s cutting into a whole different level of cars.
You'd be surprised...It depends on the vehicle. I negotiated a final selling price of $29,xxx...which amounted to ~$31k OTD for my fully loaded 4x4 2013 Toyota Tacoma brand new. By the time they changed body styles, the final year model (same trim + aesthetic refresh) was selling for $37-38, which was closer to $40k OTD. You laugh at such a price because you have one and can still get a CTR for ~$40k right now. But when Honda confirms there will be no more and the last year is slightly more special than all those before it... that's different ball game.

The 2000+ ITRs did in fact have different intake cams with different part #s. They also dyno-ed 3-4whp on average higher than the 97-98 models.

Not enough to warrant an entire new engine code, but they were different specs nonetheless.

The smaller wing R makes me think that the larger wing of the current R isn't really providing the downforce. That the smaller mid wing is the functional one.

I definitely believe, as an engineering student, in good faith that the larger wing is the functional one, as Honda engineers have stated. I am also working toward my fluid power certification, which includes extensive flow modeling and simulation, and I can pretty much gather that the larger wing provides more downforce by looking at it. I would speculate that the smaller wing is representative of a trim level or variant, as Honda put it, focused on the grand touring aspect.

The smaller wing looks like the one from the SI sedan. Honda has basically said that that wing is not functional.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate the time you took to clarify that for me.

When does Honda typically reveal the new model year to the general public? Can't wait to see it without the camouflage. Fingers crossed Phoenix Yellow becomes part of the lineup.
