I have a question to ask, what is the difference between the new one and the one that comes with the car

The one on the car - you click at the top of the semi-circle for more volume; click at the bottom for less volume.
For the older switch - you can also slide your thumb/finger up/down on the semi-circle for more/less volume. IIRC, a fast swipe down also mutes.

The volume control was one of the two little things that I missed in the interior from older models. (The other was an auto-dimming rear view mirror, which I retro-fitted.)

I installed the flashing LED brake lights, holy crap are they bright - and freakin awesome! I've noticed people back off and stay at a further distance from me. And I put this decal on the drivers' side today. The Burning Gundam head. :D

It’s touch sensitive sliding volume control or you can use click style. It’s all documented in my post but copied here...

We have great news to share in this install and review post! Honda used to offer the touch sensitive slider volume control module (left side of the steering wheel) on all 2016 Civics, CRV, and other models. However, due to customer whining and misuse/accidental sliding of their big thumbs, Honda removed this function for ALL Civics from 2017 on and went back to just clicks for up/down volume adjustment on the steering wheel.

Given that 2017 and 2018 FK8s do not have a volume button on the head unit, it is quite inconvenient to quickly change volume on the steering wheel - not to mention the lag of the touch sensitive volume control on the head unit itself.

There IS a solution, and we've shown here it works 100% plug-n-play! We've just installed the OEM volume control unit from the 2016 Civic and now have full functionality of the steering wheel slider control and are in love with it

Functions are as follow and demonstrated in the attached video clip:

- Touch sensitive slide for volume change
- Rate of volume change based on rate of slide
- Fast flick down goes to "mute"
- Unmute by flicking up and goes back to previous volume
- Push button function ALSO works

Install is very easy and takes about 30 mins. Once installed there are NO settings or updates to the head unit software whatsoever. It's literally plug-n-play and the head unit automatically recognizes the sliding module and just works.

Please follow the pics in order for the full instructions. You do NOT need to remove the steering wheel, just the airbag. Upon completion of the installation and reconnecting the negative battery terminal and as a standard procedure, the car will require you to drive for a short distance for the GPS and other systems to reset. Do NOT be alarmed as it's normal.

NOTE: Please torque to spec of 6.9 lbs-ft for the 2x T30 torx screws when reinstalling the airbag assembly.

Tools required:

- 1x T30 torx socket with 6" or longer extension
- 1x ratchet
- 1x small flat blade screwdriver
- 1x phillips screwdriver
- Plastic panel removal tools
- Blue loctite

Many thanks to Jay Gonzalez at Price Honda for supplying our test unit and for the dealership's partnership with us. Please place your order through them!

Enjoy!
