Has this mystery trim been confirmed for North America? Honda is very tight with their best models- the best ones were always being left for JDM land only. Or Europe, with North America getting the bone all too often. :nono:

I think it would sell in NA though. CTR sales in general seem steady in NA, so the demand seems to be there.
That’s what I thought but to me it seems as if this car special editions or not, won’t be exclusive to japan. I mean the engines are already made in Ohio and shipped to England I believe. The car as far as I know never touches Japanese soil until it’s finished being built. I would be surprised if they didn’t launch something in North America through.

Even if they tack on unreasonable ADM for a special edition model (assuming we get it), we can still likely buy the OEM parts from that model and can probably install some of them on the regular Type Rs. For example, some of the S2000 CR parts were able to be fitted on the lesser model.

If this actually came with a carbon roof and a power bump I'd pay a higher MSRP for one, but I'd be in forever hell while I wait out the ADMs on that one! If it is just cosmetic, I'll probably go ahead and get a '19 because I am going to grow old and die before I get one, at the rate I'm going.

Isn't a moonroof more likely than a carbon roof? And isn't a base model more likely based on the spoiler?

I thought Honda was on a 5 year model cycle with a refresh for the last 2 years (2020 and 2021 for current body style), that would put at 2021 for last year and 2022 for new body style :dunno:
The new body styles came out in 2016, so 2020 would be the 5th year. The Type R debuted a year late.

Nothing beats 10 pages of regurgitated type-Rice speculation lol. This is no longer research & development...This is hype...a finely tuned free marketing strategy.

Now that the CTR has made it’s mark in the industry...it’s time for Honda to profit as much as they can during the final years. Put it this way...The door to purchasing a brand new CTR off the dealer lot for <$40k is slowly closing.

The final model year is usually the most valuable for one obvious reason... its usually the most expensive model year to purchase. I’m guessing the OTD price tag for this nurburger CTR will be a cunt hair shy of $50k‍♂[speculation/end]

Lol 50k, no way, that’s cutting into a whole different level of cars. This will most likely be a minor update with no extra power if Honda’s past trends continue.

If I remember correctly the only performance update any Type R model has received during production was the DC2 with different camshaft profiles.

There is absolutely no reason to pay 50k for a CTR, even if it is a final year. Literally almost nothing changed from 2017-2019 besides the addition of a volume knob. I can’t imagine 2020 will be wildly different. Just more of the same.

Personally, I’m more a fan of the 2017 CTRs because I like the low unit numbers, as opposed to a 2020 model which will have a crazy high unit number. Not that it really makes a difference. Silly, I know.

But anyway, seeing as you can buy a used 2017 for 35k and it’s 99.99% the same as the 2020... why pay a 15k markup for literally nothing?

The B18c5 never changed specs in North America at all. It was always rated at 195 hp and even the engine code never changed- if it had different cams, it would have a different number at the end... like B18c6, or something... but that never happened in North America.

Japan had two versions of that particular engine, but they dropped the “5” off the end- which made things super confusing because the GS-R and Type R engine blocks were stamped with the same B18c code. But that power bump was more related to the final drive in the transmission being changed, I thought, not the cams.

Correct. I’m not clear on the tranny change versus the cam. Too lazy to research it and don’t care enough. :)
