Had two screws in my passenger rear center tread. Ended up plugging them myself with kit from Walmart. Holding air so far. There's this Z rated patch plug that supposed to make the tire good as new. Info on the M3 forum, http://mz3.net/z-rated-tire-patch-plug.html. Link not working right now though.
And according to Tire rack, you could patch a Conti all you want, as long as the patches don't overlap, and in the center bands. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=225

Yup, Discount Tire had no problem patching my Conti ExtremeContact DWS 06 for free when it was punctured.

If you plug yourself, does it also require re-balancing or is the weight added negligible?

The weight is negligible, but I would highly recommend using them only as the tempoary solution for which they are intended. Discount Tire will patch these for free and have the tire machines and experience needed to unmount/mount the factory tires. Why take the chance of having one work its way out or leak?

"Son, Tires is what wins Races (w/South Texas Accent - Robert Duval in "Days of Thunder")

Literally Where the rubber meets the road, its the ONLY contact you have from your car to the street/Earth - Do your damnedest not to skimp on tires...especially if you own a performance vehicle and/or you have kids..... I agree with Si Guru charleswrivers...I would quote what he said in this thread except it would be too long and would water down the message.

I get being cautious, but rubber cement will melt the plug and tire together to form a very strong bond. That and the way plugs are installed - bent in half and forced through a small hole - there is almost no chance of them coming out.

I'd still recommend replacing tires in pairs as others mentioned. Haven't always done it in the past, but haven't always driven a 300+hp car either.

So basically I just hit 5,000 miles on my Type R so I took my car in for a Free Oil Change at the dealership where I bought the car.

SideNote: Since I got the car the indicator that said my tire pressures were low have always been on but read on the forum that that could happen for new cars or elevation changes etc etc so I just calibrated it and thought nothing of it. They call me and tell me I have 2 nails in the back two tires and one in the front driver tires?

I have 245/30 ZR 20xl continental sport contact fix tires and it will cost me $380 each to get them new because they said "you cant patch these performance tires" is that true?

Fuck i dont have that kind of money just chilling for this...

How the hell did I get 3 nails in my tires?? I live in Orange County and the roads are very clean here. Im thinking that maybe the nails have been their since the dealership but since I didnt take it back they say they cant do anything.

Any help or guidance would be great!
I recommend that you take it to Discount Tire and see what the tire experts say. I had a nail in my tire which caused the TPMS light to come on. This happened on a sunday so the only vendor that was open was Pep Boys. Two employees who were high school age stated that the tire could not be patched and would need to be replaced. Well, the following day, I took it to Discount Tire and they patched it free of charge. Note a few months ago after a rainstorm, the TPMS light came on again, and I took it to Discount tire and they stated that it was erroneous. Best of luck with this.
Also, if you have to replace one of them, Discount tire has Hankook summer tires in the OEM size, which are highly rated and about half the price of the original Continental tires.

Had mine patched at discount tire. Be aware, they might scratch your wheel. They scratched mine and paid out of pocket to have it repaired. Kinda felt bad as it was a free service they provided and ended up paying not only the hours for the worker but $80 for the touch up.

This is a perfect example for why I continue to go back to Discount Tire.

I've plugged so many tires, even tires that people said I shouldn't plug (sidewall nails). I've NEVER had a problem. Rarely I've had a plug slowly lose air, but it just requires a replug. No way in hell would I spend hundreds of dollars if the tread is still good. Plug 'em up - even the sidewall.

Agreed. Punctured one of my OEM's less than a month after buying, the tire was basically brand new. Plugged it myself in 5 mins and kept it moving. I've plugged many a tire on everything from roadsters to SUV's and not had a single issue.

I think people watch too many movies. I've had tires blow out complete sidewalls at 80 mph and all the car did was wobble and slow down and i pulled over. Its not like its gonna blow , flip the car, roll 5 times burst into flames and eject flaming bodies out the windows...
Quoted for the lulz:rofl:

Just in case, HondaCare covers punctures. I had one done. I also had one potholed and got the tire at honda for $279 plus install.
I'm confused. You have HondaCare but still had to pay for a tire?

They covered the puncture claim but the whole car had to be towed to Honda.
Tire blowout is not covered. County did cover the claim for pothole damage.

March 15 - 4500 miles and the right front Conti leaking air out the sidewall - no bulg, no bubble, just an oval area that had air-bubbles showing when in the water tub.
April 20 - 5500 miles and the left from Conti bubble in the sidewall
Servicing Honda dealer quoted me $380 each. I bought my CTR out-of-state and purchased the wheel and tire insurance package so the Servicing Dealer called them and they paid for the new tires and mounting.

I also have a second set of CTR wheels that I had powder coated white. I bought 4 Nitto Neo Gens 245/30R20's ($695 for 4 on ebay) and I mounted at 5700 miles. Today I turned 6000 and I'm liking the Neo's.
