Hey guys,
Has anyone experienced moon roof squeaking issue on 10th gen Civic?
Mine is a 18 Si with under 2k miles. Yesterday the moon roof started to squeak even when i drove on well paved roads.

It is not the popping sounds that a lot of people reported on the 2016 Civic where the metal frame touches the plastic part. It is like a buzzing noise.

I fixed it temporarily by tapping the moon roof couple of times after closing it. It appears the seal is rubbing against the car frame. I am pretty sure the noise will come back sooner or later. Anyone has experienced this and came up with better permanent solution?

Hi,
I have the same issue. Honda dealer already changed the mechanical parts but does the same. The noise is terrible when I go over bad road. No official fix so far

If that's all it is, wipe some silicone lube on the seal. Pop the moonroof in "vent" position, spray some lube on a rag, and wipe it onto the rubber.

Some slight movement between the glass and the roof is normal as the chassis flexes and/or air turbulence pushes and pulls against the glass panel. If it fit too snugly, chassis flex could break the glass, so the solution is to design a bit of a margin around the panel.

Lube the rubber and the metal track with honda’s White grease. Mine was really bad when I bought it. Applied this liberally and 8 months later still no squeaks.

I am going to try when it happens again. Thank you!

I've had my CivicX in to Honda for roof 'noises'. They seemed to have cured the sunroof rattle, but not what I believe is the moon roof rattle.

Exactly where is best to apply the lithium grease to alleviate moon roof rattling? Is it best done from the outside of the car with the sunroof open and the moon roof closed, or what?

I look forward to your suggestions.

Thanks.

I did it every way I could - from in the car with the moonroof partially open, fully open and from outside. I mostly applied it to the track using a q-tip and liberally applied it.

Thanks for the response.

Is this the rail where the plastic moon roof actually runs? It appears to have a nylon chord running through it (on both sides) too.

I am unable to easily get hold of Honda's White Grease (which is lithium based) in the UK. Would a spray-can lithium based grease be sufficient or does it need to be quite thick?

Go to a parts store and get some silicone spray lube and put it on the rubber area around it. Might work. Use it on any of the rubber seals on the car. Doors, windows, trunk and hood lid.

I put it on really thick just to make sure. I would think any lithium grease would work. That the spray grease and spray it on a piece of cardboard and then use a q-tip to put it on thick along that track. I will post a picture of mine later.

That is what I have but looks like it is not available on the UK amazon site.
If you Google "shin-etsu" or the part number; there should be many options.

Edit: But it looks like Honda has stopped selling this in Europe?

So definitely not easy or convenient. But the eBay sellers are willing to ship.

Good luck with it. Even if it doesn't solve the problem; you'll make all the rubber seals last forever.

Thanks all. I'm still not completely clear where this should be going.

There is no 'rubber' in the plastic moon roof runners.

Where abouts should it be applied?

Where the rail of the moonroof is as per the yellow highlighted area?
