Ugh, that's disappointing. I hope the future EVs have some decent range and performance. I'm sure as hell never getting an SUV or another truck again. I was hoping for a next gen coupe as a fun car once the hatch is paid off in a few years.

It is true, a simple reality of market demand. Honda though, unlike other brands are not abandoning the passenger car market. Instead; will bolster the line up but....... will do so intelligently.

The move to EV’s is not the ultimate goal. That is unrealistic. It’s to reduce overall GHGs.

I thought our 2018 would be built in Indiana at the Civic plant. But Honda had recently converted the factory to build SUVs because of their high demand. We had to wait for Civic to come from Japan.

All Honda plants are flex-plants, i.e. they can produce more than one model. This way they can adjust the proportion according to the market conditions. For example, HCM1 can produce Civic Coupes and Sedans, HCM2 Sedans and CRVs, after having produced Ridgelines, Pilots, MDXes, ZDXes, and Odysseys without major shutdowns when those models were eliminated or moved to Alabama.

Yep everybody wants to be a truck driver or a want a be off-road explorer. Driving around in a bulky boxy vehicle so they could go to a big box warehouse and buy five gallons of peanut butter and other useless stuff. I guess that’s the idea buy a bigger vehicle so you could load it with more stuff . It looks like I’m keeping my civic coupe for a very long time because by the time I’ll buy a new car the hatchback and sedan will be discontinued

Not only that, they can produce different body styles on the same line.

There's a video on Youtube that shows the Canadian assembly plant. Halfway through, coupes start coming down the line that was just making sedans.

I was dreading this. In SA the sedans are all dying out. I would hate to have to buy another brand or only have a SUV option. That said, some are saying the Sedan Market may improve as people realize SUV's are heavier, more expensive and many don't have the assumed extra space.

Gas in British Columbia, Canada is expected to hot $2 / liter soon. Our governments carbon tax will no doubt reduce our carbon footprint so we can buy goods from China and help increase their carbon footprint. And on and on.

I have owned exactly one SUV in the past 40 years. No plans for anymore. I am a hatch man.

Fuel prices are on the way up. If that continues, watch small cars become popular again.
I watch truck drivers fill up at the pumps... $100-$130?! And they don’t even bat an eye.

Are they fucking nuts?
I’m too cheap to spend that kind of money to just tool around as most of them do with their trucks.

The vast majority never put anything more than their kid’s hockey bag or bicycle in the box either.

I just don’t get it.

I used to commute thru an industrial park. 90% of vehicles were 18 wheelers, pickup trucks and SUV. You pretty much needed an SUV to see around some of the vehicles. Don't miss that commute at all. $2/liter gas in Canada will stop all this silliness, and its coming.

Pure silliness. Gas prices could go up at anytime and people will be clamoring for the civic again in no time. Trucks will always be around but they should’ve been trying to produce these back in 2015 when gas plummeted. It’s just too late to try to switch as gas prices are rising again. Evs are the future. If Tesla made an economy version I would’ve bought one.
