California weather alone is worth the premium for me. You do make more money here, depending on your profession. But also not all of California is expensive, mainly the big coastal cities, but of course as people are moving further out that is changing...

I think of California as a great place to visit for sure. But from what i've heard from people who used to live there, unless you're making a good amount of money ($200K+), you're better off elsewhere unless of course you have family in California or you have been there for a while. For instance, for me to have the same quality of life as I do here on the east coast (house is a big one), i'd be paying a lot more for a similarly sized house over there just because of the location alone. Keep in mind, I'd say my area is already pretty expensive to live in so that's saying something. Obviously though the weather there could be compelling enough alone for a person to move there, but it depends on what a person prioritizes I guess.

Yes, if you live in Silicone Valley (the San Francisco Bay area) that is partly true. The average price of a house here is $1.2M and rents are like mortgages. Southern California is cheaper to live as well as cities outside of Silicone valley, but the city of Los Angeles is not far behind. To be honest with you, every state has its give and take, wherever you live. Every city is special in it's own way. I always tell people if you enjoy where you live, than that's all you need. Anyway I don't make $200k and I live a pretty good lifestyle.

That being said, we have the best damn coastal hwy between SoCal and NorCal with a scenic drive that cannot be beaten!

Yeah my bad I phrased that wrong, I meant to say that basically you get more for your money elsewhere. Im sure you can live a perfectly comfortable lifestyle making well under $200K, as both of you do, I just meant that your dollar probably goes a longer way if you lived somewhere else. That being said, I fully admit that I do not have much knowledge about California, its real estate market, or the true cost of living there. This is just pretty much what I heard from some people, and it also depends on the area of CA you're living in because its a huge state. Wasn't trying to knock California in anyway because its a beautiful place, was just pointing out some stuff I heard

Also on a side note, if theres one thing im extremely jealous of its your costal highway and the canyon roads you have up there. Its been on my bucket list to go in either a sporty convertible or a sports car and just carve some canyons and cruise on the highway there, seriously considering just flying down there this summer and renting a sweet ride to tour the state.

Pacific palm is pretty fancy. I go to driving range there sometimes, but I prefer to go to driving range behind Nogales

I do agree with some of the comment that it cost a bit to live in SoCal, definitely demand dual income or one high earner income to live comfortably.
