Chiming in because, thanks in part to this thread, I bought some Amsoil for my 2G TSX, thinking maybe a fluid change was all my balky shifter needed. Turns out the clutch was bad -- no biggie at 118,000 miles -- but I had my shop use the Amsoil, and man, it shifts better than ever. It's amazing.

(My clutch is still pretty heavy though. I was hoping effort would decrease a little more with the change. Oh well.)

I know that. In the parentheses, I was commenting on the clutch replacement overall, not the fluid specifically. The Amsoil seems to have improved shifting feel considerably.

I was surprised the clutch feel didn't change with the clutch replacement. Last time I had a clutch replaced, in a Mazda5 micro van of all things, it came back with a much lighter feel, so I expected the same with my TSX.

Ok, thought you were referring to the fluid change. Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe the clutch needs to wear in a bit

Wait, I'm I missing something? Isn't there another overflow hole on the side of the tranny? Is this fill hole new to the 10th gen civic? Most video about 9th and 8th gen civic, they fill the tranny from the overflow hole. Please correct me.

Wait, I'm I missing something? Isn't there another overflow hole on the side of the tranny? Is this fill hole new to the 10th gen civic? Most video about 9th and 8th gen civic, they fill the tranny from the overflow hole. Please correct me.
Yes, there is a fill hole at the top, a drain plug, and an overflow plug. Most people ignore the overflow and just fill it with 2 quart's MT fluid after draining

I thought maybe I was just hoping the KTuner was making a real difference until I nearly ending up in the back of a moving van merging on a highway (other post). In this case, I THINK I feel // hear a difference in shifting. But it isn't as dramatic a change as I thought or expected.

1. Does it get smoother over time? Is this "change" normal?
2. How can I tell if the fluid was actually changed? (I know, I shouldn't have to ask......)

I does get even better with more miles on it. butter smooth on mine now with almost 20K on the fluid

If you are one of those lucky people who has had very smooth shifting and a smooth transmission in general, the change in smoothness may not be that significant, but as @parshisa stated it will get smoother over time. Also you would notice it more in colder weather as this fluid is much smoother in colder temps. Another benefit is the change interval according to Amsoil is 50K to 150K due to it being a fully synthetic, and I believe that the OEM transmission fluid in the manual calls for 30K, I will have to double check that

I changed to Amsoil about a week ago. Wow. Was not expecting such a dramatic improvement. It is like a new shifter. It’s like they say, with cars, as in life, lubrication is the key to happiness.

I got mine replaced recently and Honda said they change it every 15k miles... I wonder if that’s BS though and then trying to make more money off me.

Did you replace it with Amsoil or OEM? According to the owner's manual, you would replace the OEM MT fluid every 30K. Amsoil Synchromesh is recommended between 50K and 150K

it was OEM but I’m going to switch to the amsoil soon. Don’t think I need it too badly now that my issues were fixed by Acuity, but can’t hurt to make something good even better.

I was reading through the guide I saw here in the forums and it looks like I have to buy new washers from the dealer? Can you confirm?

New 20mm crush washer, yes. Just one. After seeing (and smelling) what came out at 23k I would say it is not overkill at all to change Honda fluid every 15k. That’s what I would do. It is a simple DIY though.
