Not sure of the details on this but this happened other than perhaps either the car was left running or they cloned his transponder key and then jacked it. Car was found a day or two later with some parts missing from it. No other details that I am aware of.

Story is legit since someone I knew through their circle of friends confirmed this.

So sad...

You’d think that with some of the advancements in anti theft systems that it would be exponentially harder to jack these kind of cars... apparently not. Thank god mine is locked up all the time.

With the keyless lock unlock setup, it’s my understanding these cars are easier than ever to steal by cloning the signal. Got myself a faraday pouch recently just to give a bit of extra insurance, especially while parked at work

Yeah it is ridiculous. I keep my keys in a faraday pouch even when I am out in public. No scanning can be possible with my keys. Douchebags stealing people’s property piss me off....

Just wrap your drawer in layers of tin foils, place it FAR away from the side of your house where your car is parked.

Faraday pouch is not necessary.

Um, wrapping in tinfoil is a Faraday pouch ... and the distance beyond a few feet is irrelevant.

Myself, I use cookie tins, tea tins, mint tins ... just sand the lids/openings a bit to ensure electrical contact between all surfaces.

Where is my tin foil hat? J/k yeah it is crazy what thieves can pull of. Unreal and it just makes me paranoid everywhere I go. They need to have two factor driver authentication on cars. Make it near damn impossible to ever start short of towing it away.

2-factor authentication on cars sounds preposterous, and yet... this thread makes it seem a lot more sensible. After perusing this thread today, I bought Faraday pouches for both my wife and I (we both have new Hondas using this tech). I had some weird misgivings about having keyless car use and the key being so close to our car outside our home, and this seals the deal. No way I'm not lining my home with lead from here on out ;)

Yeah it is nuts that stealing moderns cars in some cases is EASIER than they were in the past. At least older cars had to be broken into. That video posted here of the Mercedes being stolen is shocking to say the least.

With this car.. If anyone wants it they can take it. Flatbed truck pulls up and grab it in 10 minutes while u shopping in mall. There are people who scout mall parking lots for special cars like this faraday pouch wont protect it.. They can just tow it away and strip it.

It's all about maximum deterrence and mitigating opportunity. At malls, if I had to take a nice car there, I try to park up on the highest level of the parking garage structure. It's not possible to drive a flatbed/tow truck up there depending on the clearance restrictions stated at the entrance.

These kinds of issues are what make me feel better about having a deadbolted garage that requires a physical key to unlock, despite the slight inconvenience of having to manually open and close it.
