So I'm actually at the dealership right now having a second emblem replaced due to cracking again. If it happens again, I'm going to go aftermarket lol.

I'm going to try to get Honda to replace mine as well the next time I bring it in. There is a shop right down the road that does clear protective films for the front of cars and I am checking with them to see if they can put one on just the emblem to give it an extra layer of protection. They may not want to do a job so small since they usually are doing the whole front end of cars.

It's funny you say that because the first time my emblem got cracked it had PPF on it. I don't think the crack comes from road debris--I think it's temperature related because when you run your hands over it, you can't feel any grooves.

I wouldn't bother with the PPF on the emblem.

I am pretty sure this is road debris related, because my Type-R badge to the right of my emblem looks like it got sand blasted this winter.

That's very interesting. I will check mine and see if I feel any impact spots. When I have looked at the cracks in the past, they look like they are actually cracking on the inside but never ran my hand cross to feel for impact spots. I just assumed since I do so much highway driving that road debris was the culprit. I wonder if the engine bay just gets too hot in that area.

I checked the emblem this morning and there are no impact marks from road debris that I could see or feel. The cracks look like they are deep inside the emblem instead of on the front of it. With where the emblem is in relationship to the turbo and downpipe, I can definitely see the back of the emblem getting too hot as the culprit.

I'm skeptical that heat is the cause of the damage owners are seeing. Heat travels back and out while the car is moving. If the turbo or downpipe was radiating too much heat we would see other plastic bits in that area melting, too. The emblem is multiple layers of hard plastic, and depending on the impact, the force can travel through stronger layers of plastic and crack the weaker ones, which is why we are A) seeing people with PPF films still getting cracks, and B) seeing people with cracks below the surface of the emblem.

Just my .02

With that being said, I asked my local dealer if they would replace my damaged emblem. They said it was a wear item like the front bumper. It's bound to get chipped and pelted, so they don't cover it.

I found the front emblem for $47 on Honda Parts Network. Not too expensive, but knowing that it will eventually crack again does suck. It would be interesting to find out what kind of materials were used to manufacture the part. I wouldn't be surprised if it was ABS plastic. If someone were to make an emblem out of polycarbonate instead of ABS that might increase its impact resistance. Headlights are made out of PC - that's why we don't see impact related damage often.

Check out the following diagram for impact resistance of ABS plastic vs. polycarbonate (PC)

you guys need to add some ppf for front emblem longevity. The front end pretty much gets sandblasted over the course of your drives. Plastic gets brittle overtime or even more brittle over time and is prone to chip or crack the longer it's being blasted by rocks, dirt, debris...etc.

~Knocking on wood~ mine is still good after about 5k miles. 90% of these miles are canyon runs and track days. IMHO, you want to add ppf as early as possible. If you wait too long, the plastic could already be stressed. But either way, i think it's a cheap investment.

Brittle? Mine cracked in less than 1000 miles. The flat vertical design is the problem and I am not adding shit.

Opps, missed I was in the R forum .. so, correction -- For Non R owners, getting a replacent one, and getting a RED one is the excuse for them getting a Red one .
