So basically I just hit 5,000 miles on my Type R so I took my car in for a Free Oil Change at the dealership where I bought the car.

SideNote: Since I got the car the indicator that said my tire pressures were low have always been on but read on the forum that that could happen for new cars or elevation changes etc etc so I just calibrated it and thought nothing of it. They call me and tell me I have 2 nails in the back two tires and one in the front driver tires?

I have 245/30 ZR 20xl continental sport contact fix tires and it will cost me $380 each to get them new because they said "you cant patch these performance tires" is that true?

Fuck i dont have that kind of money just chilling for this...

How the hell did I get 3 nails in my tires?? I live in Orange County and the roads are very clean here. Im thinking that maybe the nails have been their since the dealership but since I didnt take it back they say they cant do anything.

Any help or guidance would be great!

I've done plugs on tires 2 or 3 times that lasted the rest if the life of the tires. A couple were around around 1999-2001 on what passed for performance tires at that time on one of my 300zxs.

I'm sure the professional patches where they remove the tire and do it are even better... though since mine were done by myself for a couple bucks and lasted until the tires were worn... I'm not sure how it gets much better than that.

I'd not hesitate to plug/patch a tire again. While not performance tires by any means, I bet there was about as much rubber in plugs than original tire rubber on some of our farm trucks. Sidewall defects are pretty much the end of a tire but a hole in the tread or a bad valve stem? No big deal, IMO.

Well the one in the sidewall is  so that probably means at least replacing 2 tires unless you buy one new and have it shaved down to match the other side.

$380ea?!

My dealer quoted me $270 Ea for the OEM tires, and PS4s are around $320. If you're gonna pay that much just buy 4 new better tires.

Cant I patch the front one?
Without seeing it... if it's just a nail in the tread: Yes.

IMO... patch the front one. Buy a pair on the axle for the one you're replacing. Keep the intact but worn tire you have left if one of your fronts meet with further misadventure to be able to replace the single tire potentially if the wear isn't so different as to be unsafe. I'm not a fan of replacing a single tire on an axle. You don't want one to offer more traction than the other and make the car unstable. You'd probably be fine in the days if stability control and ABS... and it sucks to spend the money... but tires are the one thing keeping on the road. I just wouldn't recommend doing the one tire on a car that may be driven quite hard. The only exception is if your current tires are within a few 32nds of being new.

Plug patches are a couple dollar DITY. I haven't done one in a few years but probably have done a dozen total, between trucks, tractors and my old cars. You pull the offending item, clean out the hole, do your rubber plug and trim so it doesn't make noise and it'll wear flush anyways once you drive on it, assuming it's on and not between the treads.

I mean I only got 5000 miles on the car the tires are like brand new ish. Besides that I don’t have money to buy two new tires right now.....

If you don't have the money then you don't have it. Either buy the tires on credit or through a no-interest credit line a number of the places can provide and get either 2 tires. You'd essentially be opening a credit line for tires only through those businesses. When I was 18 or 19, one if my first uses of credit was buying a set if 4 tires I could ill afford when I was paying for community college full time and rent. It gave me 90 days to pay for my tires with no interest. It worked well for me at the time. Most tire places offer payment plans, many with no interest if paid in 3/6 months. Pay them off the though, because the interest is high. Credit to cover you in an emergency when you know you can pay it off is a valid use of credit.

If you're out of pocket. Buy one. Patch the front. Keep driving.

Yeah mine front two went at at 7k and that was considered well above average!

I also had two nails in my rears in the same week last month. It's just one of them things (I can say now, at the time was fuming)

Over here man comes in a van with all the gear, ÂŁ25 quid for a quality plug repair. As long as it's not near the join with the sidewall then easy repair lasts for as long as the tyre

Sorry, without trying to sound like a total c*nt, how are you driving a CTR and can't put rubber on it?
