Went and test drove an SI, the salesman showed me something cool. Using Android Auto with Google maps you can have Turn by Turn navigation appear as one of the info options on the cluster. I thought it was pretty cool!

Far better than having nav integrated in the car, IMO. Google maps is always updated for free (vs having to purchase nav updates), the traffic info is more reliable and sourced better, and I like setting it to satellite since it alerts me to general landscape cues as well.

Apple Carplay just got Google Maps on iOS 12. Now there is literally no reason to use factory nav unless you don't want to use data on your phone.

I might be the only person that actually really likes the factory nav D:

I find connecting with android auto to just be slightly too cumbersome for me to want to deal with.... granted, my phone is slow ;) I also have only had the car for a couple weeks, I might learn to hate it soon enough!

I don't mind the factory nav, I'll use it when I don't actually need directions and am just driving around. For actual navigation, I use Google Maps or more often Waze so I get warnings about traffic cams/police/road hazards etc.

While I like Google Maps and Waze myself, the advantage of factory nav is that it still navigates in poor cell reception zones. If I don't have 4G, my nav starts not naving.

You can just download offline maps in google maps and it’ll work even without data

Honda hack has turn by turn in the cluster for waze. It's a test version but so far it's working pretty well except some minor

I'm pretty sure that only works on cars with built-in Navi.

I got the feeling when using it, that once Google Map has figured out your navigation route, it does not need an Internet connection anymore to navigate that route .. but without Internet, it cannot do things like re-routing, or traffic advisories.

I only know it works with Android Auto on the SI model since that was what I tested. I believe it will work for iOS now that iOS supports google maps but I have no way to verify that or what other trims it might work on.

I can confirm - it works with Android Auto on the SI model - and the SI does NOT have the built in Garmin Navigation (enabled here in the USA)

Nope, I really like mine too. More convenient than having to dig out a USB cable and connect the phone, it's a shame it doesn't work over the bluetooth connection.

Does anyone know how to turn it off? I don't like having redundant navigation updates on.
