First event in the books! And I did pretty well (top time in first heat, raw timed in the second, drier heat by only an SM Audi TT RS and SSM Miata) but encountered an issue I wasn't expecting.

First couple of runs I used "R" mode but left stability mode partly on. It wasn't bad; throttle cuts were mild and not abrupt. But when I kicked it up a notch on third and fourth runs I got big, graunchy brake lockup -- like ABS with the world's slowest pulse cycle. It was noisy and obvious enough for folks to comment on it.

Turned everything off as water began to drain away and didn't feel it again.

If it matters: Conti ECS 33F, 30R; wet sealed asphalt with some standing water; about 35 degrees.

UPDATING THIS: Second event, dry, sunny and cold, and the quick hits of brake lockup even more pronounced. Co-driver (Annie Gill, who knows these cars) felt it as well. Didn't affect times, which were great.

I'm super hard on brakes. Wonder if I should look for a less bitey pad ...

Des, you should try to do a car swap with Ryan at some point -- I'm very curious on both of your impressions on how the cars compare. I think the consensus opinion is that the Focus will be quicker, but I actually suspect the Civic will be, so I'd love to see you guys doing some testing.

tl;dr
Ryan, FoRS, many jackets: 26.51
Des, CTR, no jackets: 26.20

We didn't swap. Course was a bit technical but not slow (thus the very short times). Ryan on Rivals but warm enough that temps not a factor after a couple of runs. Pretty sure he will get revenge once we start Packwood events.

Nah, no mysteries. He's not slapping it around like I've seen others do (think Yom).

They've had the car out for a few events and Crows Pro is this week. I was assuming it was prepped for that but didn't ask.

Heading to Adventureland in the morning. Can't wait to try a FWD car and see how the Hero 7 works!

DMVR put on a great 2 day event at Adventureland. Temps started out in the high 30's and made it up to 50 with mostly sunny conditions. Not great for anybody's tires. I found that switching to a FWD car was a bigger challenge than I thought it would be as I was fighting a loose rear end all weekend. After spinning out in my first run, I adjusted the Karcepts bar to full soft, but the rear end still wanted to come around on every decelerating turn in. I realized that throttle was the only way to control the slides. MORE THROTTLE KEPT THE REAR IN LINE! Guess I should have known, but that is the opposite of the Boxster. By the end of each day my times were dropping and I ended up 15th in PAX out of 75 drivers on both days. The real lesson came from Mike Leeder. He came over for the first day and killed everyone in his 2019 CTR! He had FTD by over a second and the PAX win. Clearly the car has more to offer than I know how to take advantage of!

2019 Civic Type R:

Karcepts rear sway bar set at full soft (perhaps still to stiff?)
265/35/19 71R's Front: 35psi; Rear 33 psi (reduced to 31 for my fastest runs)
Schrott Rally 4 ASM harness (works pretty well)

Some of these videos are embarrassing. Please don't laugh!
reasonable run on day 2

first run ever (including rear to front swap)

license plate view with good sounds

Can't wait for the next event. Anybody else having issues with the rear coming around too easily?

Terrible weather in Charlotte on Saturday but I took a DS win against a '16 Focus RS on RE-71Rs and and two modern turbo 4 "muscle" cars. The Focus driver managed to spin in his last two runs that were a less wet than the first 3, so I'm not sure it means a whole lot. My car is completely stock, still on the original tires, and I just left the tire pressures at OEM recommendations.

Especially in cooler weather and a dirty lot the rear does like to come around. At the season starting event last year even with a stock rear bar and RE71's in cool temps (high 30's/low 40's) the rear end was fairly loose (surprisngly loose for a FWD). As summer progressed I felt that the Karcepts bar was perfect at the middle setting.

That is interesting. I would think that surface/tire temps would affect grip at both ends and therefore tail happiness would not change. The fronts do warm up more than the rears, but my first run on equally cold tires led to a spin 20 seconds into the run. Perhaps there is a threshold for grip that is not met at 40F that affects mainly the rears. I think I might try to disconnect the Karcepts bar for a few runs if it is cold at the next event to see if that corrects the problem. Of course, the apply more throttle fix to the rear stepping out could improve times!

Great River Region had a Test and Tune yesterday. I think I am beginning to get the hang of the CTR. Here are a few videos from different perspectives. My goal was to find the edges of the car and I guess I succeeded since I hit a lot of cones!

So question about fuel level, I haven't ran the car low on course yet(granted I've also done 4 autoX total with the car). How long have people run the car without running into fuel starve? GTI have no issue running the well past the point the light comes on and never really have had fuel starve on course. Older Honda you probably shouldn't be running much lower past half tank. What about a new Honda?
