The Si is a drivers car whereas the accord is a big fat family car. Si is a light fun ride with a fair amount of room and I can see the sedan hauling a small family around, maybe. I once gave a joy ride to my robust friend up front and his 2 small kids in the back. The car handled and responded dreadfully and I even stalled it out at the traffic light. Last time I carry around 4 in my Si coupe. So definitely not a 4 man car in my book.
If it was me making the decision on the 2 given a family in the mix, I’d probably go for the new accord.
Both very good cars in their own purpose, and much nicer than a suv for sure

This is interesting. I cross shopped the Accord LX with a Civic EX hatch. The Accord is huge. It felt huge especially in the back seats and the trunk space. If you need that, then it's a no-brainer. But I ended up getting the Civic because the Accord LX trim lacked several things that I really liked. Things like a trunk release at the trunk/hatch. The Civic has it. The Accord LX didn't. The auto unlock feature on the door handles. The Civic has it. The Accord LX didn't. Remote start. The Accord LX didn't have it. Fog lamps. Again, the Accord LX lacked that. Yes, the Accord LX does have LED headlamps and my Civic EX hatch doesn't. Oh and some don't really care but I like a sunroof which the Civic EX hatch has. So all in all, and for a little less, too, the Civic EX hatch felt like a more upscale car with all those options (minus the LED headlamps). So, yeah, I went with the hatch and have zero regrets.

If I did go for an Accord, it would be the 2.0 turbo Sport.

Some food for thought. My Si sedan is bigger than and has more rear room then my wife's '06 Accord

I'm planning on taking my Si Sedan to an extended family vacation in the mountains near Pigeon Forge in July. I don't anticipate any issues with the space in there. I regularly pack two guitars, a Line 6 Helix in its backpack, floor monitor, guitar stands and music stand in the trunk, with plenty of room to spare (no kidding, I'll see if I can get some pictures) when heading to gigs. I'm sure I can fit everyone's suitcases for a week's vacation in there, too. My point being.. it's got PLENTY of room.

Eh, their luggage ought to be about equivalent in the trunk. And I've had them all in the car on several occasions so far, and gotten a lot of comments about how comfortable it is. We'll see how it goes in July. :)

Maybe we should all ditch our families in favor of some instruments. :headbang:

Can you squeeze everything into the smaller car, no doubt. For the same money, which is the better choice for a family and additional stuff, the Accord is a no brainer, it’s not even a conversation.

I cross shopped the Accord Sport vs the Si, you can guess the outcome. Drive both cars to find what you like best (price being moot), performance and value go to Si, the comfort and "familiness" go to the Accord.

Your kids will WANT to own your Si when you eventually get another vehicle, but maybe not the Accord.

You're on a Civic forum so you know which way most people sway. I cross shopped the Accord Sport and Civic SI as well but decided to go for the Civic. I came from a coupe as well and I really missed owning a sedan with a decent trunk. The current Civic is smaller than the current Accord but the Civic is larger and roomier than the older Accords that I grew up with (FYI, the new Civic has a larger trunk than the 2004 Accord sedan). As others have said, take a look at both of them and see which fits your needs better.

I didn't check the entire post so sorry if someone already mentioned it. Rather SI, sport hatch 4 door and MT may be a better option?

I think the Civic EX (turbo) sedan vs. the Accord LX would be a great comparison since they would be very comparably equipped. Same engine. Same Honda sensing package. Civic would edge out Accord in some features like fog lamps, sunroof, trunk lid release, keyless entry but Accord would have LED headlamps and more rear cabin room and trunk space.

I have two kids and two car seats in the back of the Si sedan. No problems. One reason the Si was appealing is because it has more backseat the other cars in the class (GTI, FoST). I’ve thought that it would be fun to mod an Accord, but it would have to be a 2.0. I drove an EX-L 2.0T and thought it was really boring. Needs intake, exhaust, tune, and coils. Guess you could same for the Si. It’s a lot better out of the box though. I actually don’t think there is even a choice if you are talking about a 1.5T Accord LX. Not even close.

I have a Si sedan. 3 car seats in back. Tons of room... albeit, less than a Accord. I have sat in a new Accord and looked in the backseat and trunk... my feeling was it was a stretch Civic with a bit more legroom and more trunk.

The Civic is going to provide a tighter, more sporty ride. The Sis slightly more powerful variant of the L15B7 and lower weight would essentially negate the added weight of a couple more folks riding along.

You're absolutely compromising on size. There are ways to add power to anything... but not size/volume. As it's been said before and I wholeheartedly agree... the Civic is now about the size of an Accord from a few generations ago (though it's trunk is still a little smaller). The current Honda Fit to me is more of what a Civic is from years back. If size/volume is how you determined value, the Civic is going to lose this game. If performance and a few features is how you determined value... the Si is going to blow the Accord away given an aggressive test drive. Splitting hairs between the two makes the decision harder.

Drive them both and think about how you feel behind the wheel. Have the family sit in it. An unnecessarily cavernous car shouldn't be the benchmark on 'good family car'. If your family fits fine... they fit fine. It's definitely got more this generation than a gen 9. All 5 of us were in that car too.

I owned an Si and gf has Accord Sport 1.5T. They drive completely differently. See which one you like driving better, then compare the smaller features using Honda website and edmunds.com review to see if any are dealbreakers. As Silverrascal said above the Si has some convenience features (including heated seats and moonroof) while the Accord has others (Honda Sensing). The head unit in Si is basic and laggy while the Accord head unit is modern and zippy. Gas mileage is about the same. 35 mpg highway cruising and 30 combined.
