I see this has popped up in the lower trim levels but havent seen this yet on a Type-R. Shirley, I cant be the only one. FYI - in addition to this crap on the dash the car sounded like a diesel engine when it started, or like the engine was lugging, as in starting from a stop light in 4th gear and mashing the throttle. I'm ignoring it for now.

Why ignore it? Car is under warranty. Seems like a good idea to get that looked at.

Apparently its not an uncommon issue. Just surprised it hasnt popped up on more CTRs. https://www.civicx.com/threads/emis...nock-sensor-1-circuit-range-performance.1654/

Some folks take it in immediately and they replace a knock sensor. Others ignore it and it goes away on its own.

Mine went away 2 days after I posted the above. If I had to guess I'd say the knock sensor is maybe a little too sensitive. Even the slightest deviation makes it think theres an issue.

Did it ever come back? My light just went off at about 90 miles. I pulled the battery connection for 10 mins and am hoping that when I drive it around tomorrow, it'll reset.

Nah, hasnt come back. My advice to anyone that gets the warning is to ignore it, unless there are other warnings included. Mine went away after roughly 1.5 days of driving. I didnt disconnect anything. I think the knock sensor may be finely tuned and occassionaly think there's an issue that isnt there.

Mine went away after driving for a bit and hasn't come back either. I will say that when pushing it up to 30% throttle in Sport Mode, I haven't seen positive boost numbers yet. It does seem to hold strong at -1 psi, so hopefully it's just me being careful during break in and not an indication of a boost issue.

Newbs here, just got my LX a couple of weeks ago, less that 1K Kms on it and emmisions light justjust on. Also noticed it was idiling a little lower and rougher, in the last few days, than when I first got it. Wondering if theyre tied together.

Planning to take a wait and see approach if light goes off as some said it does, but would like to look into the lower idling is an issue

Welcome! By chance did you fill up with a different type of fuel than in the past? If you're getting the "Emissions System Problem" message then I'd definitely give it a couple days to see if it clears itself. If you happen to have a half tank of gas wouldnt be a bad idea to fill it up with some quality fuel next time you're near a pump.

Just to follow up on my previous post - after watching some videos of Type R's doing pulls, I don't think that mine has any problems. I was concerned about the check engine light in combo with not seeing any positive boost at (what felt like) a decent amount of throttle. I've since realized that the Type R builds boost very differently than my previous '17 SI. The SI was very peaky, with boost coming in very noticeably around 3300 RPM, but the power would start to fall off around 5000 RPM, By contrast, the Type R doesn't really seem to build any boost under partial throttle below 4K RPM. The videos seem to show that from around 3800 RPM and up, the boost builds gradually higher until peaking at close to red line (and then falling off a bit for the last few hundred RPM). Since I'm still in the break in period, I haven't gone above 35% throttle or 4K RPM, so it makes sense that I haven't really seen any positive boost.

Thanks Dave. I know exactly what you mean. I came from a lightly tuned volvo C30, turbo inline 5 with maybe 250HP after my tune and the first month in the CTR I felt a tad dissappointed. The C30 seemed quicker. But with the C30 I rarely ever went above 4K RPM... I was always around 3K because the engine is so torquey down low. It took me a while to get used to using 4K or higher in the rev band and once I got comfortable with it I found the CTR's power.

Its like they tuned it to behave that a natuarlly aspirated engine, building power pretty much all the way to the top.

Yes, at around 3500 RPM I feel like this car unleashes the beast within. And let me tell you, when that hits - hang on tight! It catches you by surprise :)

I can't wait for the break-in period to be over to give it a good pull. I do feel like under partial throttle (around 30%), the Type R doesn't really build much boost compared to the SI under 4K RPM. I'm guessing that's due to it not needing boost to achieve torque targets - the K20C1 is around 33% bigger than the L15, and probably has timing improvements granting it more power as well.

I've only filled it twice, at same Pioneer station., using regular, so not some no name pump. Can it be that sensitive that gas type would cause emissions problem light to come on? It's an LX not a type R, seems odd to me.

No rush for me to bring it in, cars running beautifully aside from a slightly rougher idle, in P, then when I first got it. If light stays over the weekend will plan to get it checked.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a 19 touring and the emission system problem came on at 700km then at 2000km and than 3000km . Each time they turned it off. They now have a recall bulletin out for the fix. Just fixed it last week and it's all good.

Add me to the list of people with this issue. I have about 30k miles on it. First time this has appeared and stayed. All error messages I've ever received were after a Hondata flash, but they all went away after a minute or two of driving. For what it's worth, I did just return the ECU to stock since I was going to bring the car in to service tomorrow for an A/C issue (not blowing cold enough, another issue that has come up on these forums).

Not sure what to do. I don't want to bring it in with this error and then have them dig around to find that I'm a Hondata user.
