Hello from Tokyo!

After 24 hours of YouTube videos and countless hours reading blogs, magazines, and reviews I'm absolutely positive that the FK8 will be one of the best cars I will ever own. In fact, a day hasn't gone by where I haven't dedicated part of my day to thinking about this car. OH hell, that's even why I'm here.

But one thing......

I ordered it, offered up my old ride as a trade in, backed that up with cash for a loan free purchase. I ticked every single option that he showed me in the Accessories catalog. ( Seriously, I bought it ALL ) and then BAM! What's the waiting time? You should have it next year, perhaps late summer. I felt the hallway stretching away from me like that scene in the movie Poltergeist. Am I ever going to get my Type R down the hall?

What the hell is the deal? For those that don't know, Japan doesn't keep stock on the lot. Pretty much every car is made to order. I've ordered many cars in Japan. Mazda, 1 month; Volvo, 3 months; Honda StepWGN 1.5 months: Honda FK8 Type R........a YEAR?!?!?!?!?

I investigated. I watched the super-efficient production line video Honda Jason posted from the U.K. Okay they are rolling them out. I checked Honda Logistics's website to try to find their shipping routes. Couldn't find it. I used a maritime map website to calculate the most efficient route for a ship to travel to Japan. It's a month tops if I add in 3 - 6 ports of call. What is the deal? Why so long?

I'm so old school. I'm C.R.E.A.M = Cash rules everything around me. So why would Honda take so long to deliver these cars? Get them on the streets. Let people see them. They will buy! Please tell me what you think.

I can't say what your wait time will be. The FK8 is built only in Swindon and it is a global car, so supply may not meet the demand worldwide. It seems the allocation to North America > elsewhere.

What reasons motivate automotive companies to do anything?
A) Charity
B) Focus on quality and Customers
C) $$$

C). The answer is always C. Absolutely no reason for Honda to trickle down supply. Make money while the sun shines . There is a breaking point though. At some point customers will get tired of waiting (or paying ADM ) or competition will catch up. Then executives will scratch their heads for 2 years thinking "Why is the demand slowing down?" They will then do the obvious thing - shut down production as there is no demand.

I don't mind waiting a little bit. It gives me time to do all the research I need though. I got clear plans to convert my FK8 on the FIRST DAY. I got it planned out like this. I've played it out in my head hundreds of times already.
Pick up the Type R early in the morning. Go through the 2 hour routine of inspection and explanation. Drive away.
Go directly to the custom shop where ALL the items I've ordered are waiting for me'
Rays TE37 Track Edition Black
Fujitsubo Exhaust
Eventuri Carbon Intake
Greddy Oil Intercooler
MudFlaps
Bellof 6000 lumen fog lights
All interior lights and license plate light SUPER Bright LEDs
Tree Air Freshener.
All that in a week. I'll be ready to go!

Update: The wait continues. The latest shock was the news that Honda is closing the Honda Swindon plant. Then on top of that March 29th, 2019 is BREXIT, plan or no plan. I panicked. I've been waiting so long and now my fears have quadrupled.

Imagine if the Union there goes on STRIKE. What if in protest they decide to say "F&$% it". Can't be sure if they will finish my car because I still have 2 months to go until delivery. Quality control goes out of the window when workers get pissed.

Then there's BREXIT. What if they don't get the car on the boat and out of "GREAT" Britain before they divorce? Everything will shut down? More export/import tax? It could be a logistical nightmare.

I know I'm not alone but people living in Japan don't see this site. I'm sure there are others out there waiting but it's getting under my skin this whole situation.

It's really frustrating, to say the least. Honda in its press release said they are going electric and I get that. I would hope that they are thinking to produce Civics and Type Rs here because of the ridiculous waiting time.

It's pretty embarrassing when Tesla can get cars to their customers faster than a major player in the car industry.

Ah, I love it how everything is blaming things on Brexit...
Brexit will not be the reason for your car delay, you said you ticked every option available? Maybe this is why it is not rolling on the production line? I would have researched what is retrofit-table at the dealer, like illumination packs for example and have as stock as possible car - equipped to your requirements at the dealer (Hope that makes sense). Have you thought of trying to by a car in the UK and export it yourself? Just a thought...

I'm not blaming Brexit for the delay of the car. What I mentioned may be possible delays in the process. If you go back and read my post, you may notice lots of "if"s, "possibly"s and "could"s which are terms indicating speculation. Like Murphy's Law, the above mentioned are just things that could go wrong or throw a monkey wrench in the process.

In a nutshell, I'm just frustrated with waiting. By the time, I get my Type R, I may be exhausted.

Update! Still waiting, still wondering when my Type R will come. The longest wait ever. I’ve been to my Honda dealer, they still don’t know the exact day! I’ll be exhausted by the time I see it. It still feels like a dream to me. Frustrating that I can’t track how things are going.

I feel for you on this subject. I wanted to get a FK8 in 2017 but could not afford the mark up's at the time. However I ended with a 2019 CW FK8 by chance and did not have to wait at all, well just the week I had to wait for it. The car was still on the boat when I purchased the car. Let me tell you its worth the wait and I have gone thru an EF, EM1, FB6, and now FK8. I still want a EK9 lol.

That made me cry I was laughing so hard, but only because of the truth behind it!

Still waiting? The wait is one reason I didn't buy.. at release was going to be 7 months to a year... outrageous. There are however quite a few very very low milage examples at Honda dealers, that is the way I would probably go now. Perhaps next gen will actually be built in Japan (for Japan and in US for US) like the Fd2 etc.
