Well, unless a miracle happens between Jeremy Corbyn and the Maybot, it looks very likely that the UK will be leaving the EU this Friday without a deal--or on May 22, or on June 30, which I doubt would be long enough a delay for the passage of a deal but I'll take those to no deal Brexit this week!

According to the published WTO tariffs on the official UK Department for International Trade website, our Civic hatchbacks would move to a 10% duty/tariff schedule, since, as far as I know, there are no reciprocal trade agreements between the UK, the US, the EU and in fact, most other countries unless you are a lucky buyer in Switzerland, the Faroe Islands, Israel, Palestinian Authority, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius or Chile, we all suddenly become subject to the WTO's so-called Most Favoured Nation status.

8703 Motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than those of heading 8702), including station wagons and racing cars Base rate of duty: 10% Final bound rate of duty: 10%

Does anyone know what happens to any cars that are ordered but not yet delivered, or are in transit on Brexit day? If a car built last week and is supposed to get to North America between April 17 and April 24 lands at a Canadian or American port post Brexit, who is on the hook for the WTO duty? Honda? Customer? A combination?

I am afraid that even if the cost is absorbed by Honda or the dealer (by no means certain to happen) the sudden change in Customs status between EU/US or EU/CA trade agreements to a third country to US/CA WTO rules might cause extra delays clearing customs.

*Sigh*
