Originally posted this in "CTR at (or below?!!) sticker NICE LIST!" thread, but i figured it also applied here as well:

I see alot of people searching around to find a dealership that is not charging over msrp or not adding a ton of accessories....
Just so you know, anyone in the Tri-state area, I have a friend at Hamilton Honda in Hamilton NJ. She says her dealership will literally order whatever color you want with any accessories you want straight from the manufacturer. Or if you want one completely stock, they will make sure it comes free of any additives.
In my opinion, its easier to just order what you want at the price you know it show be at and just wait for it, then to run around wasting your time with dealerships that give you the run around. :dunno:

Her name is Sue if anyone wants to talk with her. She is a Sales consultant and she would definitely help you out with no games.

Honda of Ocala: +$1500-3000

This dealership is a perfect example of why everyone hates salesmen. I was trying out the approach of being pleasant toward dealers with markup - rather than dismissing them with little fanfare - and Nicholas said his manager agreed to MSRP. Great! I took off work early, drove about an hour up to Ocala, and when it was finally time to talk numbers they low balled my trade-in. Mind you, I just got a CarMax the other day and have KBBed the car, so I know it's worth at least $18k. Their first sheet of paper showed $11,500 for the trade in, at which I laughed. After some back and forth with the "numbers guy," they wouldn't budge above $16.5k, so I left.

Guess I'm flying to NC this weekend!

Unbelievable dealers still mark up the FK8.
On year 3 and no end in sight.
Pathetic dealers

Interesting thing to note in San Diego. The last delivery of cars were almost all CW down here. I just saw all the inventory updated today with the latest "in transit" cars and all but one are black. I guess if you want a CW or black one in SoCal, I think the dealers are going to have more pressure to deal in SD as they are all carrying the same thing.

I had the same thing happen, but it was end of month for them, and I was able to wrangle a deal (with luck).

Honestly though? Private sale your car. Do NOT trade-in. Get a rental until you buy a CTR, or borrow a car if possible. Having no trade-in makes deals go waaaaaaaaay smoother.

If you still want to trade your vehicle because Private selling sucks, then expect several thousand below KBB when buying a hard to find vehicle, unless you're lucky. Which I 100% admit I am.

Good luck!

I just got home from selling it at CarMax for $18k, which is just about what KBB says it's worth :D And yeah I've learned a valuable lesson about trading.

By this time tomorrow I should be grinning like crazy! Can't wait to be in the R-club.

Huzzah! Great decision, and I'm glad you'll be in a Type R soon!

Do NOT trade-in
I disagree, my dealership offered me $1900 more than what CarMax offered me (total 14.9k) and I saved 2k on sales tax by paying on the vehicle difference priced at $21k instead of 36k (6% state tax and 1% local tax). I would say avoid trading in if it does you no advantage, but if you have a valuable trade in and can make it happen on a fair trade price, its nice to avoid paying taxes on the full price and only pay sales tax on the difference you owe. That said, a trade in creates another layer of complexity in addition to working out the right price on the CTR (like me working like a dog to get my CTR at MSRP).

It really depends on what your trade in is, and will the dealer give you a fair trade in value. For coopermidnight, you had no choice but to trade in at CarMax bc you can't lug your car up to NC...super psyched that you're finally getting one since you've been on the lookout basically as long as I have.

Enjoy!

Valid in very specific situations, but private sale will almost always net you more than a trade in. With the CTR especially as you said, if you've already haggled to MSRP from ADM... they will likely try to recoup via the trade in.

Also, CarMax is not what I mean when I say private sale.

Found an 18 Black CTR in SoCal MSRP plus $4600 for CF Wing, CF Interior, CF Mirrors and Wireless Charging. Priced these out through College Hills Honda and it looks like its roughly $2200. I plan on offering $2500 for those accessories, you guys think thats a fair offer given it’s a year older?

I know in CA it is tough to come by a CTR at MSRP, but IMO that's not worth it. I'd rather spend $1k to ship a barebone CTR than pay mark up for CF stuff that I don't appreciate. I know CA is a tough state to deal with getting a CTR, so I'd look to ship if I were in that state personally. That said, $2500 mark up with accessories tends to be about the going rate, so I don't think you would be paying more than what others have.

Honda of Pasadena (SoCal) has $7k markup on the 2019 CW CTR. They’ve two sitting at the lot for a reason. Don’t bother. Their reason, straight from the GM, “other dealers have 10k markup.” Let them rot on the lot for all I care.

I’m ordering from out-of-state for MSRP and enclosed transport was last quoted at $1400 and 400 less for open trailer.

I don't understand why more people in CA aren't buying out of state. It's so simple, and there are plenty selling at MSRP.

Either they don't want to go through the steps of going out of state with the paperwork and worrying about the shipping. You get what you pay for, some people don't mind paying the markup and others want to save as much as possible. As long as you're happy with the purchase and vehicle, people will do whatever is more convenient for them

You get what you pay for...
As long as you're happy with the purchase and vehicle...
You obviously don't know what the first part means.
And you obviously have an agenda to prove with the second part.

Your entire post history here relates to the purchase price of the Type R. What's your angle on trying to defend the crappy practices of California dealers? Are you after the money as a salesman at your dealership, or did the Kool-aid just take particularly well with you?
