Question about replacing stock speakers, do I need a crossover?

HI,

I managed to upgrade my system using:

https://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/car-audio-speakers-system-mille-pro-mpk165-3/

So far i replace only the "woofers". See pictures below. After mounting them, without putting the door cover, gave it a try and sounded crappier than the orginal ones. I've experienced the same dissapointment. Then i realised that it sounded bad because it wasn't sealed properly. By using silicones and putting the door cover and the restarm, i finally managed to obtain an improved sound, let's say 25% better.

What remains to be done:

- wiring the crossovers; this will be tricky because our amplifier already includes ones;
- applying soundproofing material, because it will for sure raise "crickets" into our doors;

In conclusion, worth the while for me. It's true that i had much more expectations from this upgrade, but i guess i won't get the deep bass from midrange speakers no matter how much money i will spend on them. Please let me know if i can help you further.

When you say 25% better, do you mean compared to the stock speakers or the installation without properly sealing the door?
I covered the inside with Noico 80mil sound deadening materiale, as most of the outer panel, there is no gap between the speaker adapter and the door.
As for the crossovers, there is no need to install them (as many have stated), it doesn't seem to me that there are wrong freqs playing through the tweeters or the woofers, even so, it seems you cannot connect them anyway because you already have 2 different signals coming from the amp (tweeter and woofer) and there is no easy way to mix them back together, but if you find a solution keep me posted!
Thanks!!

100% Agree with this. Many people talk about using the crossovers on their kits, but not entirely sure how would you do this on the premium audio system. The signals are already divided at the amp. You could argue that you could use the woofer feed from the Amp for the crossover and then distribute to the woofer and tweeter. However, I am not sure how I feel about this. Not really a big concern for me as I haven't noticed any issues in my install (JL Audio C2-650 components).

In my case, I could agree that my speaker upgrade may have improved somewhat the overall clarity of the system but man...the bass improvement is so minimal even with the eq settings at full bass. The car's "saving grace" is the upgraded subwoofer with amplifier low pass filter set at 120Hz. It is certainly compensating for what the system is lacking. I used a cheap MB Quart Discus 8" shallow drive sub in the factory enclosure with an Audiocontrol ACM-1.300 amplifier. It has integrated the Accubass feature that brings back the bass neglected from the factory amp(same principle as the Audiocontrol LC2i). This amp can fit right beside the sub enclosure. I made a custom bracket to make this happen. Completely seemless and impressive performance! It will overpower the rest of the speakers so it needs to be set up taking this in consideration. I just wish I could get better sound balance from the rest of the speakers. :-(

This factory equalizer requires a replacement for sure. Yet, I don't want to add another amplifier just to drive these mids. Its a little bit frustrating.

You guys need to hook up a Digital Signal Processor to cleanup the frequency range and then send that into an amp that will power your new components.

Since your using the same factory wires your new speakers are still getting the same eq settings as the stock speakers plus your running them through the aftermarket X-over too so it's even worse. Your not getting the whole frequency range.

I did a full set up with 5 channel amp, replaced all door and dash speakers with a separate 12 subwoofer. I used a good RCA converter after the factory amp. Sounds great/loud and all functions remain in stock radio.
