According to various Honda techs and advisors; The guage cluster replacement will require reprogramming as stated by their service information.

From what i understand that info is pulled from a separate area and not contained within the cluster. But that cluster also controls start/stop of the vehicle, so if you replace it, there's a small chance you'd have to tow the car to a dealer to have the new cluster reprogrammed to work with the vehicle as stated by the service advisors when i asked.

Not 100% sure about this, but from research I did a few minths back --

I think you will find that Honda Dealers can only Program a NEW Gauge Control Module.
Once it is programmed, that's it ... their equipment cannot re-program the Odometer.

That's not to say it's impossible to re-program. There may be services out there that will do it - ie

https://www.myairbags.com/product-category/repair-return/mileage-correction/page/3/

, but it will need the "eeprom" chip to be removed, and programmed, and the correct checksum put in for the data... not something I can imagine any Dealer being able to do.

Watch the Video -- I bet it's not something a Dealer is going to do--- the best they can probably do if fit a new Gauge Control Unit.

U can only fit new Gauge Control Module that is clear and only then u can program it to your car. But I think there is a way to make it work if your moonroof switch is illuminated. The Gauge controll unit has 2 illumination controlls one on pin 15 and second on pin 16 both on socket A, so maybe it's possible to bridge those pins together, ane it should work for all the buttons. The pin 15 goes to driver junction A and from there to switches, and the pin 16 goes straight to moonroof switch. they are labeld as: 15 - illumination LED and 16 - illumination bulb so there can by diffrent voltage, so before connecting them togheter it will be good to check that out. It might be that BULB ill. will have 12v and LED ill. 5 v.

You will need to have the gauge control module replaced at the dealer.

During the procedure, we do a "readout" step. So with the gauge cluster still in the vehicle, we will use the HDS (diagnostic computer) to read out your current mileage. The cluster is then replaced and the mileage from the old cluster is programmed into the new one. You can do this on new units as well as used ones. But if you do not do this procedure the odometer will read "-------" at all times.

Hi
Is it safe to remove gauge and replace resistor or mosfet that is probably bad and that's why illumination dosent work?
