Hello All,

Last night as I was coming home, I noticed the car steering a bit off, it would slightly pull to the right then the tire pressure light came on and I noticed I have a flat..Granted I hit a pot hole but did not think it was big enough to cause a flat tire..very frustrated to say the least. Anyways since I only have about 6k miles on my hatchback I have only changed the tire with the flat and was wondering why no tire shop has the 235 40 R18 tires in stock? They always tend to have to be ordered. Is this tire size special or uncommon?

Thanks,

Just to add to this: the damage always ends up being on the sidewall and thus cannot get it patched..

I'd guess Continentals? Had sidewall issues with them before. Perhaps try a set of Michelin Primacy Tours, they have an XL rating 95H, mine have 5k on them, seem to be holding up well.

Yes I could but I only have 6k miles on the car. I don't know if I can justify replacing all the tires as of now. Was just wondering if anyone else is having similar problems with their tires..

That's a lot of tire woes in just 6k, my 2013 had 3 sidewall failures in the first 20k, (Continentals) after driving on mismatched tires for 25k, I gave up and replaced them.

Yes. I had a sidewall failure on my Odyssey that had Continential ProContacts and bulges forming on the '15 Civic that had then as well when I traded.

Here's another recent thread on a 10th gen with a similar issue...

...and a random page off site.

IMO... they're not a good tire.

Thanks for the insight guys. I bit the bullet and purchased another 235/40/r18 tire for around 200.. I am really hoping I can get at least 30k out of these tires..

Good luck! I really hope you do... just keep an eye on those sidewalls. If they want to give up in you again... hopefully they'll show you an early bulge rather than an unexpected blowout. I'm sure there are far more that don't fail than do... they just seem to have a high failure rate.

I clipped a chunk of cinder block in the road at abou 15mph. I missed a lot, but one got me. So, at 3500 miles I need a tire. Discount tire located a tire and then offered me tire insurance on all 4 for $118ish. Insurance is prob a good idea depending on where and how you drive.

Have you considered a 45 or 50 series tire?

Following this thread. Looking to eventually put all-season tires on my Sport Touring hatch. I have Continental tires currently.

Wondering if you could pay for tires insurance since this keeps happening to you. At least with tires insurance, you don't have to pay full price on new tires.

trick is... buy all 4 new tires at honda dealership when they are running a promo buy 3 get 1 free. second trick to this is you get up to one year of road hazard full coverage and a second year of 50% discount if you have a problem.

Last trick is - grab all four new tires on your car - keep the 3 spare tires for problems beyond a year and even put one on a spare full size sport rim for long road trips to take with you.

Currently I have 1 brand new sport tire and 1 sport tire with about 50% tread. Already went through 3 flat tires in 47k miles. Had all tires replaced at around 25k i think due to getting sidewall damage on two tires at once.

Thanks for all the responses guys. If this happens again would it be best to go with a 235/50/r18 tire instead of the oem 235/40/r18. I am pretty good about looking out of potholes but I unfortunately can't miss all of them especially at night. I got my 2 replacment tires done at Sams Club and it comes with Road Hazard protection, when I asked them if I would be covered they told me no it only covers nails and not tears..
