I had small scratches on my gear shift console almost from day one, and they only became more noticeable each time I dusted my Civic (even with a micro-fiber cloth).
I also build scale models, and a common trick is to put Future floor polish on canopies and other clear plastic surfaces because it fills and hides small scratches, it makes the plastic look more clear, and it protects the plastic. So I thought I would give it a shot on the plastic gear shift console, and I've been very happy with the results -- see attached photo but note that it looks even better in person.
Clean the console and then give it a blast of air as any dust caught in the polish will show. Use a wide modeling brush and try to avoid creating bubbles as you apply the polish. However, most bubbles will disappear and the polish will fill the micro-scratches and self-level. Again, avoid having any dust settle on the polish while it dries. Give it overnight and then it can be lightly buffed if you wish. If you don't like it, Future comes off easily with water and a little ammonia (Windex works great).
If you get scratches in the future, the polish can be reapplied.
