Hi all. I'm looking to pick up a set of the Motegi MR924's in black for my CTR. In shopping around, Google showed me the following two options. The American Racing wheels are much cheaper, but they look identical. Are these the same wheel?

I'm looking to purchase the same wheels for my car so thanks for the American Racing link. I imagine they are the same Chinese made wheel, yes. I doubt the manufacturer would really limit the wheel to only TireRack for the CTR. Wouldn't make financial sense.

Why not go with the more correct 245/35/19?? But I doubt it'll rub for 10mm wider tire. Especially since the width and offset of the wheel are so close to stock.

Edit: the offset of the AM version is slightly different at 50mm.

Thanks. My thought on the 255 width was to provide better dry traction, and to allow for a slightly increased sidewall size over the 245/35's. Are these incorrect assumptions?

That is not an incorrect assumption. Just for me I'm more concerned with getting the diameter of the tire as close to stock as possible. Any dry traction gained will be quickly overshadowed by lazier steering reaction and more sidewall flex in a turn. Sidewall is already being increased by going to a 19" wheel, then you add more by bumping up the width of the tire.

Also, American Racing spec'ing the bolt pattern as 5x120.65 worries me. Especially when they have 20" versions spec'd as 5x120.65 and some as 5x120.

5x120.65 is 5x4.75 which is an American car spec.

Gotcha. That makes sense - since I'm buying these for bad weather tires, 245 would make more sense anyway (as I understand snow traction). I did notice that for track tires, many have gone with 265/35 - would you be concerned with taking a hit to steering response from running Summer tires in 265/35?

Maybe I should just go with the more expensive ones from Tire Rack then. I'm getting a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 to go with these wheels, so that way I can get them to mount and balance them for free.

Please see my above post about the bolt pattern. I don't think the 18" or 19" versions of the AM wheel will work.

Yes, for snow, the narrower tire makes more sense. But for a cold weather tire I wouldn't be as concerned about all out 10/10 cornering ability. I just want all season tires so I can drive my car when it's colder and dry. Just to be able to drive it, not go out and set any records.

Yep. I'm getting the same tires. I'm just still debating 18" (a different wheel) or 19". 18" tires are much more affordable and for my purposes (about a month or 2 a year) I don't need to go all out.

No way will 255/35/19 rub on all the way down to a +42. If you don’t intend to lower, it’ll also slightly close wheel gap. Win/win if you ask me.

The American Racing looks slightly more concave at the hub, I said that before on some post a couple months ago I don't remember if someone actually had it or was just asking. I'm running 255/35 Indy 500 without any rubbing, which is the correct size. You can probably go between 245/35 and 255/35 depending on the exact tire. Look at the measurements (not just the nominal spec) of the tire on Tirerack and see how it works out closest to the original diameter.

The American Racing wheel states an offset of 50mm vs the Motegi of 53mm
