*****UPDATE WITH INVOICE*****
It’s the end of the week, end of the month, end of the quarter, and the end of the fiscal year for Honda. So I reached out to the two dealers in the twin cities that had a 2019 Honda Civic Si coupe in Rally Red. I’ve already reached out to each so I had a direct email to a salesman.
MSRP is listed at $25k+, invoice is $24k+, and True Car says $23k+. I offered $22k to see if either would respond. One did and she said no, then she sent me a picture of a 2019 Civic Si sedan in white. I told her I’m looking for a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red so I’ll pass. Now I leave for work. When I get home I see I got an email again from her telling me they do in fact have a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red and they’d sell it to me for $22,995 and it had a paint protection package already installed. Not knowing what the added cost of that was I said to myself, do it.
Now it’s this morning but before I drove 2 hours to hear the worst (I’m sorry, we just sold that), I called to verify that they indeed had a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red and that I’d be down to see them. She reassured me they did and I left. As soon as I go thru their doors, I see a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red looking right at me but it has black stripes on the hood with a sticker on the window saying $29,995. And I’m like wait a minute, I thought she told me they only had one left. How could she quote me $22,995 for this, there’s no way this could be right.
Ok, now I get with a salesman, we talk a bit and he brings up their Si Civics they have on hand. Here is the list he showed me.
2018 Honda Civic Si coupe / Red $20,995
2019 Honda Civic Si coupe / White $24,995
2019 Honda Civic Si coupe / Rally Red $29,995 (see pic below)
So now I start telling him about the lady, emails, and the price quote. He informs me there might have been a mistake and she was quoting you the 2018 price. But I said look at the price, she quoted me 2k higher than that price. I can understand she got the year wrong, but the price is wrong too.
Now he leaves to ask his manager about this and he returns with his manager. What’s going thru my mind now is the (sorry, we already sold that one, would you like to buy the more expensive model instead?). But here is where things turn for the good. He was really sorry, and he really was, that I was quoted a price for a car they didn’t even have. So here was the offer he gave me. He said if you don’t mind waiting, I’ll contact the warehouse and the district rep from Honda and I’ll find you a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red. All you’ll have to do is put down a $500 deposit and I’ll sell you that car for my listed price of what the 2018 is selling for. I just want you to know we weren’t trying to pull one on you and that we want your business. Soooo, that means they are selling me a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red for $20,995.
But it didn’t end there. My GF made a comment, trying to be funny about how she hates driving down here on the busy highways and wished you guys had a delivery service. The manager said, “I can arrange that”. Huh?.? So ya, they are going to find me a 2019 Honda Civic Si 2 door coupe in Rally Red and delivery it 2 hours away and bring the paperwork with them for me to sign. HaHaHa.
I hope you’ve read thru this to get to the end because here was one nice looking Si coupe. There was a car show in town so the manager gave this car to one of his guys and said go at it, get it ready for the show. So he had the seats done in leather (not to good of a job, look at the picture), he said all the chrome was blackened (but the back wasn’t), it has lowering springs with the 19” black Honda wheels, full lighting underneath the car and those two big black stripes on top. That was what I walked into when I got there, list price is $29,995 if anyone is interested. I also asked about the type R they had and he told me both sold for MSRP ($36,995).
Sorry for the long post but I needed to get this out of my system, I’m smiling ear to ear. And a FYI, I also asked if they could find out what the cost for that black stripe would be. I saved 2 grand on the car so why not get a stripe, i thought it looked good.
