Just picked up a new civic touring with a 1.5 turbo engine, and what to fine out what octane I should be using. Would like to hear what others are using.

I have an EX-L which is essentially the same engine as your, and I go with the recommended regular unleaded, 87 octane. That is the optimal. Anything above that is a waste.

Use what the manual says-87 octane. That's what your car is tuned to use, anything more is wasted, with little to no benefit. If you get a KTuner you'll need to use 91+ octane, and you will get impressive results with it, notice a significant performance increase.

87 octane, Honda also reccomends a Toptier fuel. Vist the Toptier website for a list of brands that meet that standard and an explanation of what Toptier means & why. It does make a difference in DI/turbo engines.

I feel like this should be stickied.. but 87, that's what we use for both our Civic turbos.

Why would you be using 95 octane on a stock Civic at $73 a tankful?

so my question is, why is it a different recommended fuel than the sport touring hatch? Mine recommends premium

It has a minor power bump over the normal turbo engines. Not a big performance gain but I still put 91 in my touring HB.

I believe 100 Ron is the minimum they have access to in Slovenia. He has a Sport so what he’s using is not that far from our premium. And $6/gal is like normal in Europe.

I wish we have access to higher than 91 octane here in Calif TBH.

Easy choice for me.
I drive a SI and I would put in 91 (called premium here) most times. Once in a while, I cheap out and use 87.

The regular 1.5L turbo is only 174HP and the 2018 Owners Guide states:

Models with SPORT mode
Use of unleaded gasoline of 91 octane or higher is recommended.
Models without SPORT mode
Use of unleaded gasoline of 87 octane or higher is recommended

There is no gas cap on my 2018 since it's a capless system, and nothing that I can see around the filler mentions octane.
