So, this only happens when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and at wide open throttle (or close to it), but when I clutch in I get a vibration/weird sound from the area of the clutch pedal. It almost sounds like something in the clutch mechanism is vibrating at extremely high speed or there's some sort of quick metal-on-metal grind.

This is not from the transmission, I have zero problems getting into gear, zero problems with weird sounds from the shifter, etc. So far, this odd sound has not affected drivability, it's just a weird sound.

Anybody else have something similar?

After some googling I'm beginning to think the issue is normal. As some others point out, it seems to only occur at 4500+ RPMs and might be a vibrating heat shield or the turbo actuator rod. If this is the case, no big deal. the CTR still makes less weird sounds than my Evo or my old Jeep, so I'll just live with it.

Keep searching the forums, there are plenty of issues like this and from what I can remember, it has something to do with an overly long wire that attaches from the clutch to the transmission and it causes vibration or feedback. Please do not quote me but again, search the sections pertaining to "Issue, Repair & Warranty". I remember reading about this not to long ago. Happy hunting

Take it to your dealer and have them reproduce it. From what I've read, others have had a few different potential causes found/addressed under warranty.

alot of people have this issue, and no one has found a solution. There is a thread made by me where several people came forward and have the same noise and symptonms of something resonating through the clutch at 5k-5500 rpm shifting 1-2 , 2, 3 , and 4-5 at those rpms
mine has been doing it since 3500 miles on the odo and currently have 4700 miles and the only mod i have is hondata and a k&n drop in
also people have reported this noise on brand new CTRs with less than a 1k miles on the ODO

cant believe this is not a recall or a TSB yet.

Yea I’ve read so many threads on noises with these new type r’s, I think it’s just how these cars sound. It really has little to no sound dampening so you’re going to hear a lot more noise. Plus the type r is a luxury compared to my wife’s evo x. My thought is unless it’s broken keep driving it. If the sound really bothers anyone maybe a nice German car is what they need.

I wonder how many people are only hearing these sounds when the car is still cold.

I did exactly that...Bought a pre-owned RS-3. I loved the driving experience the CTR had to offer, but just couldn't enjoy the car fully due to heat shield sounds, notchy shifting, noises from the plastic on the A-pillar, and clutch issues like mentioned here. I really hope Honda addresses all of this on the next refresh when the Hybrid comes out.

I wanted the rs3 but went with the Honda because I commute 20k miles a year and didn’t want to depreciate the rs3. I have accepted the Honda for what it is but would have loved the luxury of the rs3 for the long commute.

I think this noise could be located if somebody with ktuner or hondata (so you could remove the neutral rev limiter) put their car on a lift, revved to 5k and had someone underneath the car figure out where it is coming from. I feel the vibrations through the clutch pedal when it happens, so it must be caused by something relatively close or directly connected to the clutch pedal.

Damn.. Google helped me find this thread.

I'm having the exact issue. 2019 with 2500 miles. No mods. I get loud buzzing / vibration in clutch pedal when shifting at 5k+ rpm in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear.

I have this too on my 2019 CTR with a little over 1500 miles. I was going to make a post about it, but the sound/feeling in the clutch is hard to describe.

From the other linked thread, it doesn't look like there is a known solution.
