Hi All,

I bought my 2018 CTR about a month ago. I drove it home and she has been sitting in the garage since. I'm in upstate NY and there will be snow/salt on the ground for atleast another month or so :(. In the meantime I decided to prep and polish the car for a "wheels off detail"

Having put the car under some proper lighting after bringing it home I noticed quite a few swirl marks and a couple heavier imperfections. I'm not suprised by this as I feel sometimes a showroom floor car has it worse than cars that sit outside. Kids and even adults love to put their paws all over a cars paint for no reason. Drives me crazy!
Here is a quick shot you can actually see from a camera phone of what appears to actually be a door ding on this brand
new (9 miles on the odometer) type R.

After seeing that I realized it was time for a full "wheels off detail" as I want the car to be ready to go for springtime.

First I started with the removal of the wheels to be prepped and coated with Carpro DLUX trim/wheel coating.

I also hit the brake caliper with the DLUX as it states it can withstand extremely high temps above 800 degrees

Here is a shot of what Carpro DLUX looks like after curing on the faux carbon trim. I wanted to use this in places I also wanted extra UV protection like the headlights as well. You can see the difference to the right of where DLUX has been applied and cured.

Here are a couple shots of the car after I did 2 stages of polishing. (not that I could get good before and afters of the removal of swirl marks on this particular white car with a phone camera. I used Carpro Fastcut on a microfiber pad and finished down with Carpro Reflect on a polishing pad.

Im going to finish the car off with a layer of Carpro Cquartz (ceramic) and top it off with a coat of Gliss hyperslick coating.

Anybody else have to do some paint correction and protection right from the showroom floor?

Nice post. Honestly the very first thing I did after driving mine home from the dealership in Tennessee was significant paint correction, prep work, and Cquartz 3.0 UK and Gliss application. From one CW R owner to another, welcome.

After clay, I chose to use Carpro Essence (two applications), followed by Eraser, prior to coating applications. Topped with the Gliss. Couldn't be happier with the results.

Did you buff out the swirls before applying the product?
Yes, I used Carpro Fastcut on a microfiber pad to remove heavier defects. Then smoothed out the car with Carpro Reflect before applying the ceramic coating.

I have yet to use Essence, really want to give it a try.

Fellow upstate NY CTR driver here... I drove mine most of the winter and have done nothing but wash and wax it. Your post made me feel like I'm abusing or mistreating my car. Lol.

But to answer your question, yes, my car came with an imperfection in the paint. I don't have a picture of it handy, but on the rear door a few inches below the window there is a circle where the paint is discolored. I just shrugged it off. Its a daily driver for me so its going to get dings, scratches, etc.

Fantastic work man! Thats exactly the thing to do to prep the car for some lengthy use. Doesn't matter what products you use to detail the car, use what you like and use it often! how do you like the Carpro stuff, Im a Menzerna and Chemical guys person myself, not a pro in any sense but i am a seasoned amateur. I too will be doing mine as soon as I take delivery of it early april. Ive always had white cars but this time I went with the SGP. Ive been hearing some great stuff about the Carpro brand :)

Looks really good in the Photos.

If you want to really impress (and make us all jealous), post a few more pictures taken under those strip lights, but really close up so the reflection of the strip light on the Paint fills the whole frame. Lets see how sharp the edges of the lights are in the reflection .. a true test of just how perfect the paint is under the Ceramic. :)

I had a somewhat strange experience. So my R was one of the first being so I figured it was one of the first brought there and then stored at the Maryland port for a month or so. We all saw those pics back in 17.

When I got my R it was clean except for the inside of the wheel barrel , like most they just cleaned the outside spokes. Well when I got home I went to wash them and it was rusty sea air film...if you lived at the beach ever you know what im trying to say. I think the car sat there for a while waiting for release and once they did they had to buff and polish my car. I say this because the dealer didn't have time I was on it as it was off the truck. and there is a polishing residue that was left on part of the rear vent and near the drivers door. The car was slick as glass and not a scratch or swirl on it. I got is coated soon after and here I am 2 years later almost and not a single swirl mark.

Welcome! I am also from Upstate NY... Albany area. Drove the car all winter long as it is my daily. Ceramic coating has held up well. I cannot wait to do a full detail and spray down every nook.

There are no swirl marks or scratches (or extremely minimal amount) left after the 2 step process. All that is left is some nice cmooth factory orange peel lol. I'd really like to try and use a heavy compound and denim pad for orange peel removal. But I certainly wont practice that on this car. Here is one photo I had available on me after the two step process and some LED shop lights on the hood.

I Absolutely Love Carpro products. I myself do not exactly have an allegiance to them, but I have tried lots of products and seem to keep going back to them. I feel that most cleaning products I like are more due to how much I allow myself to become efficient at using that said product. I've used Carpro ceramic enough at this point that I really don't want to change it up. I've used a few other ceramics and although extremely similar, the play times (or flash times) and how each wipes off and works in different temperatures vary slightly. So I like to get proficient with one and stick to it. Makes life a bit easier.

Looks really good .. I would STOP there !!!
I would love it if mine looked that good :)

As we all know, the Honda paint and Clear Coat are very thin layers.

Cutting back any remaining minor Orange Peel could make it even thinner !!!
Personally, I would prefer to have the thicker, more protective paint layer, than a very thin Mirror surface.
If you try to cut back the remaining Orange Peel, and go a little to far, that's a MAJOR (Expensive) paint job !!
