Heads up, I don’t have a defective shaft but have a custom milled knob which is counter sunk. It will spin all the way down till to the end of the threads. I want to use the stock collar so I’m going to use my die set to thread it as far as I can.

If anyone local to me wants me to re thread their shaft deeper I’ll consider it depending how this goes.

wow I wish I saw this thread. I was taking my shift knob off to switch to red leather, and after turning the nut clockwise to allow me to remove the knob, the threads somehow got all fucked. I had to go to Honda and buy a whole new Lever Assembly which was a pain the f***ing ass to replace. I had to take everything apart to replace it just as if I were to put in the new acuity adjustable shifter.

I am stuck! Trying to swap knobs and my lock nut won't loosen. Nut turns either way with the knob - I haven't pushed it or felt anything strong enough that feels like stripping. I am turning my knob CCW as hard as possible while keeping the nut in place as pictured. Any tips?

I understand you would need something to protect the knob, but have you tried a pair of channellocks to get a bit more torque on the knob? If you used a wrench to tighten the nut before, it is unlikely you'll be able to break the knob loose with your hands.

Do you know the material of your knob?

I haven't tried a pair of channel locks mostly because I'm afraid of damage. Knob is made of 303 Stainless Steel, but has a satin finish with I assume a delicate coating

I know it's a little late now, but I would have tried to see if they could replace under warranty, especially if you didn't damage the car yourself.

I went out and got a strap wrench and it worked like a charm! Thank you :)

I think a lot of you guys are stripping your thread on the shaft. By running the locking nut further down than you have to an it’s ruining the shaft. Just a thought that locking nut only move a couple turns if that no more to get the knob or ball off

So from the looks of it some people have had the same issue, can anyone help guide me? My lock nut is stuck as well and at first didn't realize what was happening and we'll, kept trying to force it off, so now it's stuck on. I would like to get the nut off cause I'm getting my trim all color matched and this is the last gray piece I need done but can get it off without getting the nut off! Help?

Yikes!! Man you guys are really cranking these jam nuts down.

I would try to chase the threads with a 10x1.5 die and see if that helps that jam nut find its way back onto the threads. If you get it off, you might have to get the same size tap to run it through the jam nut as well, cause those threads are prob toast too.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks man, and I promise it wasn't me! It came from the factory already like that. I was so confused cause I was thinking this isn't normal. Will try it tonight
