This isn't about the tune per say or the mods. It's about running way too much power for the stock Si rods to handle. Plus, the guy was clearly street racing his vehicle.

Eman was 460whp with meth IIRC, but also on motec. Impressive numbers, but not surprised on the outcome and apparently he wasn’t either. Excited to see the envelop being pushed and having some built L15’s being produced.

Yeah well pushing the envelope on these Civics isn't always pretty is it? Why not just get a more potent/robust car to start with?

Oh wait... I'm being logical. Sorry.

Seems like the si is not really the platform to be chasing numbers on a stock block. Heck, I'd be nervous pushing the r to that power on the stock block. Maybe I'm too cautious but I like to avoid being stranded like that. I already have a ktuner v2 ready for the r but I kind of like having a warranty so I'm going to enjoy stock power and enjoy peace of mind for a while.

Though I applaud the guy for giving us another failure data point.

Some folks want to be the underdog. Gotta pay to play, and he knew it. Either way, it’s not uncommon to buy a car with without the expectation of modding the hell out of it. It’s just addicting once you start and before you know it, you have a snowball effect lol

Yeah... I'm still realistic about what power one can make with what we have to start with. It's still only a 1.5 liter. There's only so much surface area on the top of those little pistons for the combustion pressure to work on. Our bore is 73mm. Compare that to... say a C6 Corvette ZR1s handmade LS9 bore at 4.065"... or 103.25mm. Strokes are similar. Area-wise... we're talking about 41.85 vs 83.73mm^2. This car was nearly at 400 ft-lbs vs about 600 ft-lbs of that big 6.2.

We're comparing 2 vastly different engines. 1 with 1/2 the cylinders and each individual one being asked to withstand forces greater than what is being asked for a performance oriented engine that's in a Corvette ZR1 by my reckoning. I would consider the L15B7 a tiny engine that punches far above it's weight class... but it's stock internal strength isn't comparable. It's still a mainstream engine... Sis being the same as the CRVs... and numbers in the million units range now.

I'm also of the opinion the guy is an ass road racing in traffic. But so far as blowing the engine? Yeah... I'm not surprised. Why he didn't build up his engine with pistons and rods already available before he threw pieces through his engine to make a puddle on the side of the road is beyond me.

IMO, trying to treat a L15B7 as one bank of a LS9 and throw comparatively more torque at it is just destructive testing. It was inevitable.

The thing that blows my mind is this. He was working with a tuner right? And that tuner didn't think that pushing nearly 400hp and tq with a stock 1.5 Si motor wouldn't require beefing up some internals first? Shaking my fucking head...

Daniel from Church knows that our cars can’t run full E85 at high boost because we don’t have the room for it fuel wise. Also at high boost can’t run safe afr either. His new motor being built is from a CVT lol and he remember church #’s are inflated as hell. He blew his motor over a month ago and took this long to talk about it .

What I’d like to know is how in the hell is all that power turning into acceleration in this car? But, can’t hate on a guy for pushing the envelope. I just hope all that didn’t go on a credit card or two and is just making money and enjoying it.

Im sorry, but I can't help but think that people who do this to their car are some of the stupidest people on the planet. Spending the money and Buying a Civic Si with a low displacement 1.5 liter that is already pushing a decent amount of power for its size and trying to push it to 365 WHP through a front wheel drive car is just being an idiot and literally asking for you're car to break.

Firstly, you're buying a brand new car knowing that you're gonna mod the hell out of it and completely ruin its longeivity, then you're pouring money into it when you can just a buy a better car that will be way better than the Si. I can't help but wonder what would make a person think "instead of buying a better car or a used car that makes more power and has more potential i'm goinf to pour my money into a brand new Civic and try to push 365 WHP through its 1.5L engine".

Aw...Don't you like the background music though...So sad it's funny. Doesn't make too much practical sense to push stock motor like that.
This is however a realistic discussion on what not to do along the way here to your 1.5T SI. Maybe he did get a warning and or the tuner likely played along for the money with a blow up it's yours disclaimer...

Jred... I'm with ya yet I do get the concept of pushing the envelope too. But... you have to do it wisely. I guess I've never been able to afford the idea of spending $25k on a car with the intention of using it as a guinea pig knowing I might destroy it.

If you guys want to push the envelope, instead of trying to squeeze 400 hp out of a soda bottled sized engine, climb Mr. Everest or something. ;) Possibly safer, and good exercise too.

Yeah I get trying to get the most out of modding a car. I just feel like buying a brand new Civic and spending so much money on a car that eventually is going to break is as good as burning your money. The benefits of buying a new car are completely gone once you try extensively modding it like that. Now if you take something like an MK4 Supra and you're trying to push 800-900 WHP, then by all means go for it. You can even get a late model lightly used Mustang GT for under $30K and its already pushing over 400 horse from factory. Put the same amount of money as you did on the Si and you got a car that'll eat the Si for breakfast without breaking a sweat. Or even a 335i, just an ECU tune and you're at 400 WHP. The list goes on.
