My car was doing the same thing but things got worse over time, the trunk would open anywhere and the horn and flashing lights at anytime. They changed the body control module and now everything is fine.

Happened to me for the 2nd time this AM. Had just opened the trunk and dropped my lunch and laptop in. The key in the door didn't and still doesn't do anything. Honda roadside was no help since I'm out of warranty. After about 45 minutes it decided to respond to the key fob. Going to dealer this afternoon. Leaving window down in the garage from now on. Mine is a 2016 LX with 63K on the clock. Hadn't opened the trunk the first time it happened.

I experienced a similar problem for the first time yesterday. My Civic (Touring, owned about 15 months, 13K miles) was parked in the garage overnight. When I tried to unlock it, nothing happened. Tried all the fob buttons, both fobs (in case there was a problem with the battery in my primary one), the trunk, grabbing the door handles, pressing the buttons on the door handles and nothing. I finally decided to try the valet key and as soon as I opened the driver's door, everything started working again.

As I was reading this thread, I thought that my circumstances were somewhat different, since I didn't go into the trunk just before it happened and didn't experience the light show that others are describing. But now that I come to think of it, the last thing I did prior to this happening was to open the trunk with the button on the lid to retrieve my laptop and lunch box and then closed it, the afternoon before when getting home from work. So I guess the sequence of events was pretty much similar, though I didn't notice any unusual flashing lights when I unloaded the trunk the night before.

Next time I go into the dealership, I'm going to report it so I have it on record.
The first time it happened on my LX I hadn't opened the trunk either.

I took my Honda to Ganley Honda of North Olmsted, OH after having experienced this problem in April, 2016. They could not find any reason for the problem and just said to bring it back if it happens again. As I have pointed out before, from looking at all the entries on this thread, there is no one who has experienced this problem more than once, so I guess that is the good news.
Mine is the last post (for now) and this AM was time #2. Hopefully your dealer is better than where I bought mine. Won't take it back there ever again.

I personally haven't experienced anything like this, but my dad's 2018 Accord's trunk opens spontaneously. It's done this multiple times

Took it to my mechanic today. Found out I couldn't open the door with the key because the rod that connects to the lock had fallen out. Crazy thing. Maybe I wont trade it in for a Crosstrek just yet.

This happened to me for the second time yesterday, the first time only being a month ago. My key fob was in my pocket, went to put something in my trunk, opened it up put my bag in, closed it, started to go toward the driver's door, nothing worked. The 4 orange/yellow lights were all on, no buttons worked on the fob, the physical key didn't work, but fortunately the alarm wasn't going off. The only difference was that last time after about 45 minutes, the lights went off and my key fob worked. This time, well, it's up to about 14 hours since it happened and still can't get in.

Anyone find a solution or get Honda to admit there's a problem? It seems like this is happening to mostly 2016 models.

I was showing the car to my brother, and I had no idea what caused it to happen. Although I think I had also opened and closed the trunk right before it happened.
There are a handful of frustrating things too: 1, you cant get this to replicate when you want because it seldom happens, meaning taking it to a dealership is a fruitless endeavor. By the time you get it to happen again, you're locked out and cant get it there even if you wanted to show them. 2, the car is problem free afterwards, starts right up and everything works as it should. 3, Honda has not, and will not, EVER admit that there's anything wrong. Heads in the sand or up their asses, even though I've sent them multiple threads from here and from other sites.
