Side effects of owning an R might include...

So we now have 8 people in our local R group and we have noticed a few things. One member said driving a Type R had side effects and inspired me to make this post for fun. I am sure most of us have had some of these same experiences and can relate. Please enjoy and feel free to add some of your own in the comments.

One of the first side effects you may notice is what I have nicknamed R stalking. It includes people following you, paparazzi pictures and the occasional U-turn to follow a new guy to assimilate him into the R collective like the Borg from Star Trek.

They show up in parking lots next to you


Damn found me again the guy in the Blue R is the worst he finds us all.

Another side effect of owning an R is the random and somewhat constant attention it draws. You'll never find yourself with out an admirer or enthusiastic fan.

Came out Post Office and a couple of young guys wanted to see and sit in the R.

And one armed with a camera. Gonna get the right light.

Oh and yet another where is the R shot. We see you over there blue R.

Another side effect unwanted attention.

Then comes the tires. Yeah I stayed with same size Not in the 19 club


The next side effect is gratuitous paint protection. The likes of which you have done to no car before it !

Your gonna research paint protectant film, ceramic coats, car wash methods, PH Balances...

Oh can't forget the much needed foam canon... Mmmm soapy.


Of course you can just go old school like this awesome guy ! A fever and 48 degrees out side cant stop him.


Side effect: Separation anxiety

For months you'll keep checking to make sure the R is still in the garage, then stop and turn back to soak in its majestic beauty before walking back inside.

Yup it is still there.

There's the I have to park out in Egypt side effect

You know so I wont get door dings duh.

The random guys from the Civicx forums show up at your house side effect.

The stalking the dealership to see all the Rs Side effect.

Then we try to figure out who bought them and bring them into the group


The Side effect of hopelessly collecting everything R and organizing it.

The Side effect of having to always convince your wife or husband you have to have this one part or mod or in my case this tiny version of my car.

Side effect: Your significant other saying "Damn you like your car more then me and take its picture more then mine"... um yup

Or the artistic versions.


Or the … oh hell here is a bunch of pictures of Rs lol. From various meet ups. Yes meetups another Side Effect.




Side Effect: Loosing your mind over the R. Its gotten out of control when you want to hang this one on your living room wall.


Side Effect: When you start planning your daily trips on the most fun roads.


One last fun thing for me as I was an early buyer was clearing out a Honda dealer of its employees who had not see an R at that point.


Good times, I have had the R now for almost 2 years and still everyday its like the first. The people, the fun, the meets.
I belong to a good group of R owners who sent me pics of their adventures to make this post. I don't pretend to understand it but this car has magic powers. True its just a civic but man the attention it gets is unreal. Many safe travels and thanks for looking. Please feel free to add your own side effects of owning an R to the list.

Right, My girlfriend is always complaining about where I park, I just say hush and carry the 5 gallon jug of water. But seriously I park so far away.

Congrats! There are many more adventures ahead for you.

This car is just as wide as my 2009 Tacoma. I make sure I find a spot next to the curb and park as close to it as possible.

Dude you have no idea. I park next to curbs but only curbs that the spot next to me is a passenger side door. As every car has a driver but not all cars have a passenger so the chance I get dinged from their passenger side is less My woman says Im ridiculous. To which I say 2 years no dings

Lol funny you wrote this just got followed by a guy in a mustang he even put flashers on drove 10 mph til I drove past him to look at my R... then at the next red light revs his motor til I put my window down an starts telling me how sick my car is lmao it was funny wish I had my go pro to video it

I get it all the time, Teslas, BMWs, Jaguars even some little E-car Chevy thing. Funny thing is in the small part of town I live in the Mustangs and Camaros leave me be. Mostly because they know me and know Ill give them a run. My Favorite one though was I caught a bike off guard at a red light, nailed it beat him to next light. He motioned for me to roll down window and flipped his visor and said " Man that F*%^ing thing is fast.

Side effects of owning an R I've experienced:

• I fear curbs
• I watch the road for potholes like a hawk
• I stay way behind vehicles on the highway to avoid rock chips
• I get used to the power
• Other cars feel slow
• I get used to the grip
• My wife regularly yells at me when I accidentally make her HRV's tires squeal in the turns

I walked out to this after being parked for about 15 minutes the other day. I kinda thought the guy was just messing with me, but I happened to still be standing out there when he returned to his vehicle. I made a smartass comment to the guy and he seemed completely oblivious and apologized. Not sure how you can be so clueless..



Btw, I was out there talking to an Accord owner who was a Honda fan and asking about the car. I think that's on your list, right? lol

I saw some dude taking pictures of my car last weekend and I hung back until they were done. Definitely flattering but I don't always want to talk about my car. Sometimes I just want to get along with my day. Also, it would be better if it wasn't always dudes wanting to check out my car.

Spring time means everyone is out in toys on the weekend again and everyone wants to race. I usually ignore everyone but an old NSX buzzed me on the interstate and I couldn't resist tagging along for a little bit. What a great looking car.

Too funny. I've experienced almost all of the above. Less about the paparazzi and more about paranoia regarding potholes and parking spaces. I'm that guy circling the lot until a curb spot opens (but said curb spot can't have a minivan or SUV on the other side). Good read though

Also, side effects include having to scroll through hundreds of pictures of your car (on your phone) just to show pictures of other things to family and friends.
