I agree, the reason they are popular is because they are relatively affordable. And I think Honda priced it right. But when dealers get greedy they price it in a price category with more competitive cars. The price advantage is gone. There are a lot of compelling cars at $40-45K.

what cars?

40-50k doesn't buy you much these days, especially if you only consider the new market.

Some options that come to mind though: Sti, 370z Nismo, Audi TT.

When you take into consideration the used market, lots of options including: GTR, ZL1 1LE, M2, M4, ...etc.

Btw. Lots of people asking me about where I bought my CTR in Cali. I got it from Ocean Honda off Whittier. Make sure you ask for Fernando. His cell is 951-208-8999. He's the only one that i spoke to so far that didn't pull some bait and switch BS. Tell him Will sent you.

I've waited a long time to make this post and am happy to say I finally found a red CTR at MSRP (yes, MSRP as in $35,700 + destination fee $699 + tax, tag and title). Southeastern Honda in Palm Bay Florida (just south of I-4 and I-95 junction) is where I had the pleasure of doing business. I had to drive 3 hours south from my home in Jacksonville despite a 2019 red CTR in the showroom at my local Honda dealer (Honda of the Avenues), who wouldn't budge from $5k ADM

Southeastern Honda also offered me MORE than what CarMax offered me for trade in (which was a virtually flawless 2015 4 door red Civic Si with 59k miles, completely OEM). Additionally, they also offered me $500 off of destination fee if I had a trade in (this was their initial offer before I even mentioned having a trade in).

I am overwhelmingly pleased with my experience at Southeastern Honda. They currently have a 2019 red and CW CTR in the showroom, though I heard that the dealership was firm on an ADM for the CW. Contact Donna or Nick from their sales team, they were very friendly and made the buying experience almost too easy to be true. I told them I would post about my experience, so feel free to mention Justin recommended them.

Here's a video of my car coming off the showroom floor, kind of surreal that the day has come!!

I think I agree with this. They shouldn't be marked up the way they are. They're special cars but they're not THAT special.

I was doing some aggressive shopping this week and most of the dealers I called all wanted a 10k mark up. I think a "little" mark up is deserved, just to take advantage of the demand but 10k?? Come on. It's a civic man and one that I don't see them limiting production of any time soon. Not bashing on anyone's "dream car" or whatever but let's be real here.

Anyways, after a few days, I was able to close on a brand new 19' for MSRP + 295 dollars for window tint.

btw. I'm from the Bay Area.
I wouldn’t give these dealers one penny over MSRP

Was browsing the local buy/sell page on Facebook tonight, and saw that a salesman from Jay Honda in Bedford, OH had posted that they have a red Type-R for sale at MSRP, They are also willing to work with someone if they need the car shipped. They are one of a few Cleveland area dealers who sell the Type-R at sticker.

The salesman that posted is Lou Vascek. I do not have any relationship with the dealership, or any of the staff at the dealership. Just thought I'd pass this along.

Burns Honda in NJ gave me MSRP (as they always do) but sold the car already optioned with $3365 of Honda extras. Some I liked like the light up “R” door lights / trunk net / winter mats / regular mats (not sure if standard), and some I could skip like window etching / car cover / lower door chrome accent (that I’m taking off). I’m actually not sure what else was in there to be honest. That might be it. I might have parking sensors? Not sure. I know I have a Nav I don’t want. Google maps FTW.

The experience was positive though, they helped me out of a 2018 Accord Sport 2.0T manual I hated, lowered my interest a bit, and at least they didn’t mark up the car when others do.

@NeoDiNardo Just curious as to why you hated the Accord. That was my fall-back car in case the CTR didn't work out (thankfully it did), but read good things. I'd like to hear your thoughts.
