Hello guys,

First, check out our blog for the build. It'll be a little more in depth than the forum and you'll be able to subscribe to it so you'll get updates when we post about it and various other blogs you might be interested in. We're not spammy, we try to put out good info. We'll still cross post the build here.

Here are some pictures of it in the shop along with our other Honda....

What we like
  • Power potential
  • Factory turbo!!!
  • Cool seats
  • Tune-ability
  • Surprisingly cool interior features and dash displays - not usually a thing we care too much about but we'll take it!
  • Handling is ridiculous out of the box for a 24k car
  • Styling is really nice IMO
What we don't like
  • If you're 5'5" like me, the seat belt cuts into my dang neck!! Oh well. It's a little annoying but not crazy.
  • This clutch....is it actually working? We can't feel it lol.
What we're going to do

We like to keep a few things to ourselves so we won't give it all away but you can count on all bolt-ons getting put on as well as custom tuning. We're sort of power junkies around here so we'll always make that a priority. Wheels, tires, and suspension are a must on any proper build so look out for that. We have some other tricks up our sleeve that we think you'll really like so keep an eye out!

We took our Si to the dyno this weekend to get a good baseline before we start tuning and bolting on parts. Here is where it sits. 200whp and 233wtq. The torque value is a bit peaky, you can tell it settles back down almost immediately after peak torque and flattens out. Without the peak, it's still about 225-230 so we're happy with where our starting point is. Not disappointing at all for this 1.5.

We finally got around to installing something on the car finally! We have a few more goodies right around the corner too. We knew with our experience with other front wheel drive, turbo platforms that the rear engine mount needed to be addressed immediately. The engine moves WAY too much to try and get good traction when you're launching or shifting hard. Even pulling through a gear feels way better with a stiffer mount. We've been Boomba dealers for a while and decided to get theirs on our new project. As expected, it vibrates a little at low rpms right after you rev out of idle but once you get going from a start, it's not noticeable. The trade off in performance is well worth it in our eyes. Here's a good picture of it. Installation was easy and we'll throw up a guide to doing this as well.

As you can see in the first picture, the stock mount leaves way too much room for movement to call it a performance mount and the bushing has voids in it which help reduce vibration and sound.

Wheels are on! Here are the specs of the wheels and tires for those interested in this size.

SSR GTV01 in Flat Black
18 x 8.5 +40mm Offset

Kumho Ecsta V720 Tires
245/40R18

Overall weight is only 0.4 more lbs for the entire wheel and tire together. Not bad for going plus one size on both the wheel and tire.

Nice start to the build! I'm thinking of the same spec in terms of wheels, just wondering if it's better to go with a 45 sidewall for better cushion. Thoughts?

No, I don't think so. This is a good amount of sidewall. The factory tires technically have less if you use the tire size measurement. I was actually thinking about doing a 35 sidewall on this but the difference in overall height with a 245/35 would have been too much compared to the 245/40. So this is technically a taller tire than stock.

Wonder with extra width, offset and sticky tire if you will see stone damage on paint where tires are hanging out? My one criticism of civic design is weird indent that puts tires outside of fender liner. Not as much a issue with stock tires, offsets etc but wider wheels, tires with softer compound I'm worried that I'll be flinging pebbles at paint.

I definitely hear you. I'm not sure if we'll experience that but we haven't so far. This car won't get driven a ton to be honest so it's not a huge concern. But some 3m clear mask would be awesome around the fender areas for this reason.

I am very curious to know the difference in strength between the standard 1.5 connecting rods and the SI connecting rods. I have been having nightmares about bending something in this engine from running a ktuner/ base map.

Just looking for come 2cents.

How much strongers are the internals to a Si. I see standard 1.5 civics have already blown up!!

I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, if any. There will always be cars that blow up in the beginning. Sometimes, it's easy to find out why, sometimes not. I haven't researched them much so I'm not sure. Generally speaking, if you're tuned properly and not being too aggressive with boost, timing, fuel, etc., it should not be easy to go out and bend rods in a fresh motor, especially one that already comes turbo. With that said, there are certain things you should never do like go WOT in high gear at lower rpm. That can potentially damage a rod or piston very quickly even if it's a decent motor. Always stay in the 3k+ rpm range when boosting.

This has to do this trq vs egnine speed im guessing? Good Advice :)

That's exactly right. The load is super high and the piston is moving slower. It causes detonation, pre ignition, too much heat, high cylinder pressures, etc. Basically everything an engine isn't supposed to see. Ruins a lot of engines.
