I feel bad for Swindon, but I do think this bodes very well for the next gen CTR to be made in Ohio. The CTR is a hit here and the engine is made here so it makes great sense.
What improvements can they make out of an engine that already gets 300 hp out of a 2.0 and averages 27 mpg combined lol. I think the hatchback will be made in 2021 but do we have proof that a 2021 CTR will be made in NA?

Do we have proof that it won't? Despite naysayers saying from the start that the Civic Type R in North America was going to be a one year thing, then two year, then three, year etc. Honda really doesn't say much but just keeps pumping them out like it's any other hatch produced in Swindon. I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't make the Type R in North America and I really think owners that would like to see quantities limited to keep their resale value high just accept that the Civic Type R is here to stay and that shouldn't make your Type R feel any less special to you.

I hope they do keep producing it for North America (Regardless of where it is produced.)
The question is still there though. From everything I've read, Honda has confirmed Hatchback production in North America. It's just journalists and fans extrapolating that to mean that the CTR will also be produced here. I'm not saying it shouldn't/won't be. Just that the CTR has not been confirmed by anything more than rumor and speculation.

They have confirmed that the next gen hatchback will be made in Marysville. All of the turbocharged Type R engines are made about 30 miles away in the Anna plant, and they’re currently putting that engine in some of the Accords which are all made in Marysville. The Type R sales in the US have been brisk. Of course it hasn’t been written in stone that Type R production will continue, but it sure looks like things are lining up for it to happen in central Ohio. Stay tuned.

I agree with all of that. Just not with the title of this thread.

The article states Honda will introduce hybrid power for the next gen 2021 Type R
well dam i am putting down my deposit for a 2021 for electric motors it should destroy the current gen CTR with a measly 300hp

There have been more issues with vehicles coming out of that plant, the Type R being one of those vehicles.
Can you point me to something that shows this? I never saw anything that
The Marysville plant without a doubt is Honda’s state of the art facility, they have a track, R&D is performed there, it’s gigantic, they produce the $150K NSX there, the Anna plant is 30 minutes away and they manufacture all Honda engines there including the Type R engine, and there’s several more Honda factories all within 60 miles of the Marysville plant. Central Ohio is without a doubt where Honda has a huge presence. The Swindon plant on the other hand is a little plant not located anywhere near any other Honda facilities, and is located on another continent. There have been more issues with vehicles coming out of that plant, the Type R being one of those vehicles. Also, whether it relates to Honda or not but England for some reason has been notorious for producing some of the most unreliable vehicles in automotive history.
So... No, you don't have anything to back up your claim that the quality of the CTR will increase if its made in the US.

Of course I do, there are all sorts of documented issues with the Type R, overheating, transmission problems, gears grinding, rev match errors, etc. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, how could you not read about this? Brit Shit, bring production to the USA and watch quality go up in Honda’s state of the art facility in Marysville.

Basically the same, the accord’s engine is a modified, detuned version of the Type R engine, this is a fact.

I think that if production does move to US that the team can actually spend some extra time on development and design.

Raymond, Ohio is Honda’s second largest R&D center in the world, right near the Marysville, East Liberty and Anna plants. I may take a ride out there and see if I can take some spy pics of the new Type R lol

I know Honda is proud of their NSX hybrid system but if you ask me, the extra weight that car carries being AWD/Hybrid leaves me feeling ho-hum about it. I've driven it and it is indeed super fast and capable, no doubt. But it isn't light and you feel that. I had an original NSX and the new one is nothing like that car. Nothing. So despite all the performance, I didn't love driving the new NSX. In comparison, I fell in love with the CTR immediately upon driving it. The NSX to me should have had more CTR soul in it. If it were RWD, non-hybrid, manual transmission and 800 lbs lighter weight, THAT would have been an NSX. Probably a hell of a lot cheaper too and would actually be selling right now instead of sitting in showrooms. Making it a technology demonstrator for pure performance numbers misses what people actually want in a car. The CTR amazingly accomplishes that. It looks childish, but driving it puts a smile on your face like few cars can.

So if the next gen Type R is going to be a bloated pig carrying around a bunch of batteries, it will lose something in my opinion. The current CTR is fabulous because of what they were able to do WITHOUT making it AWD and/or hybrid. It's pure and you get that when you drive it.
