So I’ve been driving my Si for a few months now and ive gotten used to the gears and the clutch and everything about the car basically. However recently I’ve realized that while starting in first and shifting to second the car is extremely sluggish... Is this an issue anyone has encountered if so can you explain to me what is happening or suggest what to do moving forward? I do live in Montreal and the wheater is consistently below zero since December not sure if that may be causing the issue. Let me know!

Thankyou, much appreciated

Probably from the rev hang and fake turbo lag? My car feels the same way. Got k tuner and gonna flash the car today, so hopefully that makes it better.

Hello Daniel. Don't worry about the rev hang, once you fully figure out the power range, you will find it to be a better experience. Also if you are flooring the car in first and second, don't do that as you hit the fuel cutoff much to fast. Last thing I will suggest is when you do your first oil change, also change out the OEM MT fluid for Amsoil Synchromesh MT fluid. It will improve shifting, and make both the transmission and shifting much smoother

I think @REBELXSi thinks it's due to the rev hang. I think I got a nail in my tire....because of the rev hang.

Sounds to me like you are shifting too early out of first entering 2nd at low rpms/boost and then expecting immediate acceleration. Otherwise, I have no idea what you mean by “sluggish”?

He may be talking about the loss of power in high rpms. I find that I don't really get any gravy on my potatoes until third. That is with tsp stage 1. I don't remember what it's like to drive stock tune. Every gear is sluggish on stock tune in my opinion.

I'm on stock and it doesn't seem sluggish to me. Yes it's true that you hit fuel cutoff pretty quickly in first and second, but once your in third there is much more mid-range available. 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds is not sluggish in my book (in sports mode of course). Tuned you are much faster, but sluggish she's not

At what RPMs are you shifting from 1st to 2nd?

About 3000rpms
Turbo usually kicks in around 2500 RPM and really starts pumping around 3500 RPM. You might find the 1st to 2nd shift less sluggish if you let the engine rev a little higher before shifting. Sport mode also makes the car a bit more responsive.

Good luck!

So I’ve been driving my Si for a few months now ...Daniel
I have replied with this before so please excuse the shortened version. When shifting out of 1st gear, I recommend shifting early (~2200 RPM) or shifting late (4500 RPM). Shifting in between those RPM seems to be a bit more 'clunky' and slow. Give that a try and see how it works out. I think between those RPMs is where the engine really starts to pick up under low load and stopping it mid ramp-up is the problem. That has been my experience, at least.
