According to Automotive News, “That increased factory responsibility was just one outcome of the European overhaul announced last week here by Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo. Honda’s Swindon plant in the U.K. makes the Civic hatchback for the U.S. Although U.S. Civic sales were down 14 percent to 325,760 vehicles in 2018, nearly a third of that volume was imported...’Given our efforts to optimize production allocation and production capacity on a global scale, we have concluded that we will produce the Civic for North America in North America,’ Hachigo said.”

Regarding electrification and as we’re well aware, Honda already knows how to built such great technology with the current NSX. We can potentially see trickledown technology here or shared with the next gen CTR. Perhaps we’ll see a front engine turbo 2.5L 4-cylinder with rear mounted TMU to achieve AWD? One can dream, right?

Um..if that is third hand reporting (reporting on Motor Authority reporting on Automotive News), I think they're leaping to conclusions in the headline.

Automotive News makes no mention of the R. Motor Authority says, "Automotive News reported that Honda will utilize plants in the United States and Canada to replace Swindon's capacity, meaning Civic Type Rs could potentially be built here beyond 2021."

They key word being potentially. So they're reporting a speculation by Motor Authority and calling it fact. No specific statement on the Type R - just Civic Hatchback. No confirmation on the next gen Type R.

Unless they have a fresh statement.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like you’re going to need a larger stable.

Thanks for the info, they’ve been saying the hatch will be made in Marysville, and with all the Type R engines being built in the Anna engine plant only 30 miles away, it’s a no brainer. Being built in Marysville which is the crown jewel plant for Honda will only increase the quality of the new Type R. A 2.5 liter Type R would be nice as well.

We also have confirmation by 2 Honda Mfg team leaders in Lima, OH, at the Anna Mfg engine plant - confirming it’s Ohio.

11th gen already got green light and reported by Temple of VTEC working with Honda Corporate.

Any intelligent prediction on what this'll do to the MSRP? Stay the same?

Yes, I know that electrification is the future, but I don't think it's something to be excited about IMHO. Granted, it will help with cutting down emissions and global warming, but what will happen to the batteries after their operational lifespans have expired? If you look at the chemical makeup of current automotive EV batteries, they are filled with highly toxic chemicals, like lithium, to the environment. Are we simply trading one form of pollution for another?

As a track driver, I still prefer my gas-powered CTR and S2000. There still is joy maintaining, repairing, and driving these engineering marvels.

I 'think' the MDX Sport Hybrid is AWD but does not send any engine power to the rear wheels - they're all electric. I think the Volvo XC90 T8 may do the same thing.

Pretty cool stuff with bright futures! Really making me appreciate my old cars though...

I didn't know there was a documented difference in quality between the plants?

The Marysville plant without a doubt is Honda’s state of the art facility, they have a track, R&D is performed there, it’s gigantic, they produce the $150K NSX there, the Anna plant is 30 minutes away and they manufacture all Honda engines there including the Type R engine, and there’s several more Honda factories all within 60 miles of the Marysville plant. Central Ohio is without a doubt where Honda has a huge presence. The Swindon plant on the other hand is a little plant not located anywhere near any other Honda facilities, and is located on another continent. There have been more issues with vehicles coming out of that plant, the Type R being one of those vehicles. Also, whether it relates to Honda or not but England for some reason has been notorious for producing some of the most unreliable vehicles in automotive history.

I feel bad for Swindon, but I do think this bodes very well for the next gen CTR to be made in Ohio. The CTR is a hit here and the engine is made here so it makes great sense.
