Dealership scratched my car and attempted to cover it up.

I'm just lucky to have good connections that can help at least make the scratch nearly invisible without having to repaint. I just should not have to pay for another ceramic coat that was damaged by this dealership a week after I had it coated.

Here's a true story and one of the reasons I don't trust dealers...

Back in 1983 (I'm old lol), I ordered a first year CRX. The CRX was so new and hot that I didn't even know/care which color I was getting. It was either going to be red or blue. The dealer said it would take a few weeks to get in from Japan.

I'd call the dealer once a week to check on the status of the arrival. When I found out it was red I was pretty excited. After a month they said it "should be here any day now". At that point, I went to the dealer in person hoping I'd see it on the lot.

And then, I saw it. But not how I imagined it. It wasn't parked on the lot. I walked by the dealer's on-site body shop and saw a red CRX with a badly dented hood. I came to find out that, indeed, that was my car.

I confronted the dealer who told me the hood was damaged when they off loaded it from the car carrier. I get it. Shit happens. But you know as well as I do that they had no intention of telling me the hood was damaged. I just happened to catch them in the act.

Still, I let them do the repairs, and took delivery of the car. It was one of the first CRX's imported into the US and I was young and didn't know better. I should have raised a stink but I didn't. I was so naive that I even paid above sticker for the car.

Dealers are shady.

Yeah. Shady enough that I'm afraid of being sued if I show their name. Although I consider everything I said to be factual.

I had this happen, I have a dash cam as well with sound and if they turned it off, I would be pissed...Just the idea of someone touching my stuff...anyway...sorry, I got a dent and they called the dent wizard and fixed it. it was all good again. We have a super dent wizard in our area that most car people know of, thank god.

? How did they turn it off, mine is hardwired. You would have to pull the power cord off the camera to turn mine off. Its in parking mode all the time, set to sensitive It can detect a door hit as well. love it.

It was a GoPro so they fiddled with it until they found the power button. I can post that too if anyone cares. The worst is them laughing about turning it off like two teenagers about to take my car on a joy ride.

They not suppose to turn off the dash cam.... I am sure they dent and scratch the door when they open it on the lift. Next time you should have a dash cam install inside and outside just to cover your basis and also tell the service adviser not to touch the dash cam

You should tell them you have a dash cam an you have it on... it’s called reasonable expectation of privacy. If you just tell them it’s on an not to touch it they will be less likely to act like idiots.. when they laughed an turned it off the knew you would see anything after that an it’s kind of like them mocking you in away. All of that is besides the point they made the scratch/mark in the paint... step up an fix it be honerable about it

Mistakes happen, but not owning up to them is super lame. I'm afraid that I wouldn't even notice a scratch at this point - my car is pretty dirty and scratches just don't show up on white.

Thanks for sharing OP. I'm glad you have someone who can fix it up for you, but I'm frustrated for you. Hope you find a new dealer to go to.

I've had two Honda dealerships be dismissive of my car. It's really a turn off. Fortunately there is one dealership near me who seems to understand the R is a bit special. They only let their master techs work on it, even oil changes. They'll continue to get my business.

Unfortunately this isn't the dealership I normally go to. Like you, I have a dealership that respects me and their customers. They have treated me well and I'll remember that next time my family, friends or I need a car. Also, I did in fact let them know I had a dash cam and that I was recording and they didn't object. All I want is reimbursement for the 200 dollar ceramic recoating I now need. Not the 386 dollar paint correction they promised me but simply the ceramic coating. I'm more pissed that they tried to cover it up than them scratching the car since I was able to somewhat save the paint. I've put over two thousand dollars into a protective bra vinyl wrap, ceramic coating, floor mats, and door sills. I'm not going to get in a screaming match with someone at a dealership because that won't help. There are other options and I'm exploring those now. Is two hundred dollars really that hard to ask for after having your car damaged and intentionally covered up?

Have you started posting bad reviews on sites? I got my car scratched and I threatened to walk out into the show room and show every single customer out there what they did my car and tell them to go somewhere else. Shit started moving once the GM heard about this. I still posted a bad review on google following that.

I am perusing other options first. That is all I can say for now.

Whatever options you are persuing, if it is with the Dealer, you are wasting your time unless you are talking direct to the GM.

Anyone else, like the Service Manager, or anyone in Sales, is a total waste of time.
Go straight to the top. The ultimate decision maker is the GM, so you may as well be talking directly to him/her.

The gm is the one that refused to pay after the service director promised to pay.
