Is it safe to load the CTR with heavy luggage?

I don’t remember. Someone could look on their door frame and tell us. You can do five passengers. 850 sounds low.

http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/QS/AH/ATBA1919GW/enu/index.HTM

It says

The maximum load for your vehicle type is:
  • 850 lbs (385 kg)
Edit: also confirmed the others as well, 850 for the sedan, coupe, and 1.5L hatch. 680 for the 2.0L hatch.

Edit 2: if you do the math, it looks like Honda is assuming 170lbs per passenger (680 / 4 = 850 / 5 = 170)

Interesting. Is that because the Si has more clearance?
Honestly, I have no clue, I asked earlier what the limit actually was. Someone said (for the Type R) it was a tires, but the math said that isn't true. It leads me to believe either the clearance or the suspension.

According to Tirerack.com the OEM tires on the R and sedan si have similar max load ratings (around 1300 lbs). So, you’re right, the stated car weight limit doesn’t look to be due to the tires.

It's mostly the tires. I have 18 s on the car and they have higher load ratings .

Each of the Type R's continental tires has a load rating >1300 pounds. 1300lbs * 4 tires = 5200lb load rating for tires - 3200lb car = 2000lbs. I personally don't feel like it's the tires. I'd wager it's the suspension. The sedan/coupe/hatchback (non R) have a load rating of 850 pounds (only 170 more than the Type R) and probably use tires similar to what you have. But this is a question I asked earlier in the thread, where is the limit truly coming from. The math says it's not the tires otherwise Honda could get away with saying 1000lbs or even 1500.

Guess they didn't keep us Americans in mind when making that assessment lol.
Part of me feels like they underquoted the numbers to cover their butts in the event something happens due to "overloading". I have a feeling the car can cover more than what Honda says. I'm well outside the American norm coming in as a male at 5'0" 110lbs :p

Yes they most likely underquoted the weight restriction due to law suites. And yeas, I do fall into the American norm. 6'1" 215lbs lol

According to the webtubes (which therefore means this must be right.....) the automotive industry utilizes a 3.0 factor of safety in design. That obviously won’t mean 3.0 is used everywhere (e.g., engine versus chassis components) and 3.0 won’t mean actual weight limit scales linearly. But, I bet it means we can go 1.5 beyond that sticker value (i.e., 1.5 x 680 = 1020 lbs might be a more ‘realistic’ weight limit). That number includes luggage as well so it still doesn’t get us to a realistic ‘American’ body weight limit. Perhaps two kids are assumed in the back.

Maybe car dynamics are also considered, where things like dynamic forces, generated during deceleration events at the higher speeds attainable by the CTR, are factored in to the weight limit.

This is probably all bollocks. Hopefully, an automotive engineer will spot this and correct us....
