Hey guys, my name is Andrei.

I'm a new and almost happy owner of a 2018 Honda civic hatchback (lx cvt Canadian spec). First let me say that the car is great, engine is nice the exterior is great and the handling is amazing. But the issue is that I'm not a fan of the cvt, it's not bad but its limiting me for what I had planned for the car. Right now its costing me 214 CAD a month, 7000 down and I'm leasing it for 48 months, 10,800 $ buy out option. I just reached in my break in period which is 1050 km or 610 miles. I went to my local dealer and asked can I exchange for a sport manual, and they said sure but its 55 bucks more per month, 269 per month.
It's going to cost me 269 for 60 months instead of 214 for 48 months and my 7000 downpayment is gone but they gave me a 8000$ discount since it was a test drive demo with 6500km.

Besides the differences does it make sense to trade in my brand new civic hatch for a slightly abused sport manual or should I let go my regret of the cvt and accept the fact that I own it.

Here are some price differences,

LX CVT:
$214@48 months .99%
$10,800 buy out option
$17,500 value if traded in
@1142 km
put $7000 downpayment

SPORT MANUAL:
$269@60months .99%
$8,666 buyout option
$18,850 value after discount
@6500km
No downpayment, but $200 is due at signing.

Let me know what the best choice keep the lx cvt or get the sport manual, let me know.

Always love helping the civic family
Now I'm asking help from the civic family. Tnx

Best regards; Andrei

I hate CVT too, so of course I prefer the sport hatch, but do your math and make sure the dealer is not screwing you (they are trying). I would give them the 1350$ in cash and keep the same payment and lease length, otherwise you pay over 2600 more in 48 months and even more if you change to 60 months, for a car that at that point will be old.

Keep your LX for this reason alone. I too wish I had the 6MT in my Sport Touring, but alas it isn't available in the States and for me, buying one in Canada (where they DO get it) wasn't an option.

So I've deacided to keep my LX, not the end of the world, going to give it some performance mods such a a racechip or ktuner tune, cold air intake and new Intercooler, maybe a custom exhaust to in the future. You guys are right it's not the end of the world.

And suggestions for a good JDM or German manual project car? That would be fun to get one for under $5000 CAD

As tempting as it might sound don't do the Racechip. You'll be much happier with a Ktuner tune.

for what it's worth, the 1.5T cvt with ktune stage 2 full aggressive all up will shock you and freak gear heads out too

Yeah just bite the bullet for 4 years, and at that point get yourself the manual. Assuming Honda still builds them

i had the manual 2017 LX base model(almost same as sport) and all i can say that it was fun to shift gears....but other than that....i traded in for a 2018 Crv for the wifey and got the Sport 2018 that my wife just bought CVT...honnestly its really fun not to worry about shifting anymore...plus i can use the paddle shifter to control my intake sound and exhaust note too ;)

Nissan 350z is a cheap JDM car you can get in manual, or in German cars you could get a BMW 335i. Just a tune puts you at 400 HP in that car. Both are great project cars imo that you can get pretty cheap.

I personally hate to settle. If you're paying for something you dont absolutely love, then I think that is a waste of money.
Do what feels right for you and your situation.
