Thanks for the reply, yeah there is differences sometime large. I guess that is why it bothers me they keep making it "less special" by throwing around they all got type R engines when they dont. They should do more to control thier brand. I mean I've been at a honda dealer and have had them tell me oh this accord has the same engine as the type R.. no..no it doesn't.
That's salesmen talking to try to sell cars. I've heard a salesmen say that an Accords traversely mounted VQ35 variant made the car "the same as a 350Z" years back when I was looking at Xterras but took a minute to check out an Accord while I was there. When I asked if that meant the Xterra was better because it was a VQ bored out to 4.0 jokingly, he replied "yes". After that, I stopped listening to anything he said and when I went back later to look at them again, when that guy wasn't available, I said I'd work with anyone else because that guy didn't know anything about the cars they were selling.

So far as the "less special" aspect... it's just the world we live in. The K-series engine has been around a long time and the present redesign has been used to power the CTR... and other variants are also replace the J35 where they can for CAFE... along with dumping their 6 speeds for the 9 speeds Acura had been using and the new 10 speed that came out in the last year or so. It's the engine they have available to accomplish it's goals. So far as the "K20C1"... the CTR is the only car Honda has that gets it. Outside of Honda... the crate variants are going to some very impressive cars that would seem in no way to dilute it's appeal... in my opinion.

Man, some of you guys are real upset that Honda is making good use of the R&D put into the CTR, ensuring that they get their money's worth and make it worthwhile for them to continue these kind of halo car efforts...

Well they aren't necessarily wrong lol. It's the same K series block, just tweaked for lighter duty. The difference this time is that base C4 variant was derived from the performance version, and not the other way around. I do think you're simply getting hung up on the characterization, while the rest of the community seems fine with its positioning.

Go back and look at the differences between the B18C1 and B18C5 on the USDM Integra. You'll see a lot of the same language in these comparisons.

No ones upset it's just a discussion. No one is right or wrong it's all opinion. Myself and I'm sure a few others like things that are unique . Was one of the reasons I hot the R. Not only just one of. But when you find out your unique car has parts and tech scattered everywere it just feels a little less unique is all.

It's like a houseing development where everyone one of the 300 houses looks the same... most people go nope i want my own house that's not like all the others. It's a far out example but I'm sure you understand.

I want to be at a red light with a type r engine in a type r. If every car around me all have "variants " of the same engine then it's just kinda meh... everyone's got one.

Part of the appeal in 17 was it's an R, wow, it is special, it's the first time here, it is rare, its limited and so on. That's being deleted by shoving R tech in everything and selling it to others. Like my title says..starting to feel less special..

The little details are what makes an R engine an R engine. Revel in them, Don'y worry that other people are sharing the same block as you with a code that starts with K20C.... The 1 at the end makes you special. Enjoy it.

Again, I will point out that if you want Honda to continue to make a car like the CTR, they need to do stuff like that to justify the R&D cost. It's insanely common for parts/tech from high end models to work their way down to other models in tweaked/diluted forms, it happens in BMW, Porsche, Audi, basically any and all car companies. Instead of being mad that they took the CTR motor and toned it down for the Accord, be happy you got the all out version of the motor.

What makes the CTR special is that it has all that unique/cool stuff all in one package and not in the detuned variant.

You bought a car because you thought it’s engine was special? Please let me know what’s so special about a 4 cylinder engine? Nearly every compact sedan and truck has a 4 cylinder. It’s extremely common. Now if it was v8 or the Lamborghini v10 you can complain.
The manual versions.the automatics are everywhere

This thread reminds me of all the angry Porsche die-hards who were up in arms when the Cayenne came out. At the end of the day, the Cayenne saved Porsche and allowed them to keep building the 911 and their other sports cars. Personally, Honda could put this motor in a CR-V and I wouldn't care as long as they are dedicated to making fun cars again...

I'm actually debating on throwing the K20C1 into my EP3. Opinions?

I love the R but. Man they are slapping that engine in everything. It's in the R, the Accord, the Ariel Atom, the Vandal One and now the Acura RDX.

Although they somehow got 560 stable HP out of it in the vandel one.

I mean it's really just a civic hatch back . 90 percent identical to the sport touring the main thing that set it apart was its engine. But dang now they putting it in everything.
I purchased a car not an engine and I am thrilled with it. I’ve had my car since June 2017 and although there are now sever Type Rs in town my car is still special to me. I waited for years for this car to come to the US and I expect it will still be special in 20 years in the same way a original NSX is.

Enjoy what you have.

I don't see why shouldn't they put it on everything. It proofs the capability (and reliability) of the engine. You don't see Ferrari putting their engines on anything else other than F1. Sorry, but sounds a little like a social status issue IMHO.

P.S.: You are in a forum for likely minded folks, so I hope you were expecting the criticism.
