Hey guys! Just picked up my 19 Si last weekend. This was my first time driving at night and I noticed this weird layer of that I thoufht was fog , but I'm pretty sure it's dust or some kind of film unless this is totally normal and I've just never noticed on other cars ?

Thought I'd ask here before shooting these photos to the dealer in the event im totally wrong and this is normal. If they need to be cleaned or properly resealed I'd rather just have them do it since they're down the street .

That's just the light reflecting off of the headlight's enclosure to make that "fog", there's nothing wrong with it. But if it's still there when you turn off of the headlight and it's only isolated to one side then yeah it's a minor problem, but i'm willing to bet that it's some of the light that is bouncing off of the headlight's glass. I've seen this on my car(s) too, not worth going to the dealer imo.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. Glad I asked first . Last car was a touring hatch & had LED headlights so I didn't have anything to compare it to. It's the same on both sides so I had assumed it was just an accumulation of film or dust. Thanks alot man.

Personally, I think it is a defect... something has got inside the lens/reflector enclosure, and has now been baked onto the inside of the lens.

This is a photo I took back in august 2018 of a similarly NEW (15 miles) damaged 2018 Si.

Check under the hood, in the engine bay, for signs of "sand".

Check from hood lower lip (in particular) for sighs of "sand" blasting damage to paintwork. Feel it with your hand in a zip lock bag.. see if it feels rougher than the paintwork elsewhere on the car.

You would not be the 1st one to get a sand damaged new car... probably cause during storage or shipping from the factory.

If it is bad, or unacceptable to you, getting it CORRECTED will be a nightmare and it will always be a damaged/corrected car :( -- Trust me, -- been there 6 moths ago -- I was fortunate, the Dealer took the car back, in "exchange" for another identical car, but with no defects.

Also, forget about opening, cleaning & re-sealing. It's NEW Car... if its only the headlights (very unlikely), then you WANT/DEMAND new replacement headlight... (not ones Hacked open and "FIXED", by a Dealer !! )'

Thanks for the input. I don't notice any grainy like finish on any of the rest of the paint. Everything else is in good shape. So, I'm not sure. The area that I was concerned with is isolated to the area you can see in the picture, so it being some kind of reflection would make sense.

You may not easily see the sand in the paint, or the damage, but once you do, you will never be able to not see it !!!

Try the ZipLock bag test.. it makes the feeling of roughness a lot more sensitive.

Try looking at an angle, (with the full beams on) in daylight -- a similar angle that I took my Pics at.
As you move around at an angle, you should find a point where the effect is the most visible .. snap a few of those, and please post them...

Any sign of sand in the engine area ??

I cannot tell from your pictures if what you see, is the same as what we had with our 1st Si, but the Dealer did admit that ours were contaminated, and swapped them out with new ones, and the new ones had NO SIGN of that contamination/reflection issue.
So what we had was not just a normal "Reflection" effect, but some definite contamination and was something that went away with new headlight assemblies.

At the end of the day, it makes no difference to the amount of light the headlights are putting out -- but once you notice the effect, and believe it is due to a defect, on your NEW car, you will always see it and feel that it is "Not right" .. you paid enough for the care, at least it should start off being right and without defects.
