there's nothing special about the honda oil filter. It's just a regular cheap mass-market filter. Probably manufactured by some company that makes generic oil filters for everyone. It'll get the job done OK. If you don't mind spending a couple dollars more(like me) get either the Fram ultra or the M1. They've got metal filter elements instead of paper. Not that that makes a big difference if you change the filter every time. If you leave it on for two oil changes or 10k miles I would get a better filter than the OEM one.

Did anyone tried the hamp filters?I used them on my old 98 hatch and oem s2000 filters they where great.
I think they actually are the same as the A01 filters . they are also made by Filtech and look the same.
Hamp part nr is H1540-RTA-515 And i would use the s2000 filter if they would fit those are even better.

I remember Endyn telling me Honda changed oil filters back then too for saving costs.I think honda did the same here...
The EP cars also use the A01 and A02 filters so honda still uses the same filters after +10 years...

""Oil filters only affect pressure because of the pressure-drop (or drag) created by their elements. Small filters, typically are more restrictive, and they tend to reduce pressure because of the pressure drop. Larger filters (like the S2K units) have more filter area, and cause less restriction (pressure drop), and therefore, the pressure you read may be higher than you'd see with the smaller filter.
All Honda engines came equipped with the larger S2K filters until 2002. The small filters came into existence due to space constraints with the later Honda engines installed in later model chassis, and Honda made the decision to switch everything except the S2K engines to the new smaller filters because it saved them money.
The D series engine I ran in my Civic from 1996 to 2006 had over 100psi cold oil pressure, and 85psi at 3KRPM and above (hot), and there were no ill effects. We run over 100psi hot on all the TSX road racing engines we build for Honda R&D, and there are no ill-effects....

It doesn't look like the replacement to the A02 filter is getting great reviews by the boboil people either.

I guess if you love your car, get upgraded oil filters. I'm thinking I would get the Amsoil one and just go straight with Signature series, test UOA and see if I can push to at least 10000-15000 miles on 1 oil change.

Had my oil changed at a Tampa Honda dealer. They used the '15400-RTA-003' oil filter.
I first asked if they had any of the A01 filters in stock which they said they didn't.
The parts dept guy also said they don't even have any 0w20 'blend' at the dealership and use only full synthetic which was good to hear...
Some dealerships advertise cheap oil change prices with the tiny words at the bottom, 'full synthetic extra'...

Giving a little shade on the OP for an impartial review. As far as I can tell from all the online crap I've read, all 3 filters: A01, A02 and this Mahle one, all have an anti-drain back valve of silicone, not nitrile-based which might not last as long. The filter manufacturers are held (by honda, not us) to build to Honda standards, and Honda warranty applies. It would be risky for honda to source a part such as an <<OIL FILTER>> from any one place. Get real.

I personally use Bosch 3323 filtech oil filters. The best filter money can buy, for a great price of ~$7. You really can't beat that price and for a great brand like Bosch.

Can anyone confirm with with 100% certainty that the A01 filter properly fits our 10th gen Civic's?
I have an '18 Hatchback and I'd like to use the A01 but then came across someone saying that it doesn't match up as well as the A02 to our cars; that once fully threaded on, there is some bare shiny metal exposed because the A01 is skinnier bodied than the A02 so its footprint doesn't line up as well.
If this is the case, I worry about that rim of bare metal being exposed to the elements.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Even better would be a picture of an A01 installed at time of oil change

Thanks

Is the AO1 the correct filter for a 2019 LX with the 2.0 motor?

Sorry I know this is an old thread, but yes you can use the A01 on the 2.0. I use them on my 2018 civic lx 2.0 and my 2018 civic hatchback 1.5t
