How do you know they don’t use it? Would make sense they do since HFP sells the CTR engine not accord. If it has the CTR internals it’s a CTR.

Stop trying to justify it lol

Lol there is no winning with yall. 40 posts telling me they aren't the same engines as the are set different , detuned, blah blah just drive one you'll know they aren't same. I finally agree and now I'm told they are the same by you. There is no winning.

Ummm what? I’m saying the atom and vandal use the exact same CTR motor, the accord and RDX do not. So you trying to justify your car as special thinking the atom and vandal use the accord motor is wrong.

It’s a civic dude lighten up

No where in any of my posts do I say the atom and vandel use an accord engine. And if you think the engine in the vandel is the same as the R outputting 560 hp then... I want that one in the R.

And actually I would say the opposite of you. I think the RDX and Accord versions are closer to the R version then the Vandel or Atom. Those two engines are heavily modified to get the numbers they do.

Your reply got me thinking. You know it's not a type R engine unless it's in a type R. I guess my hang up is the press calling it the type R engine is in this or that when it really is not a type R engine. It should be called the K20C1 version what ever which would make it an accord engine or RDX engine. They build the hype by saying they have Type R engines when in reality they dont.
You sure about that? Even bolded it for you, as far as the 500+ hp vandal obviously talking about the lower HP output one. Atom and lower HP vandal are a stock R motor likely bought directly from HFP. Anyways I could care less justify it however you want it’s obviously a CTR engine they’re both using.

There’s a full story in Road and Track where they talk about the Type R engine in the Accord I think it will clear things up.

There is nothing to clear up, accord uses different pistons and rods as well as a different fueling system but that has nothing to do with the actual engine. HFP doesn’t sell the accord version lol

I agree... it's a lot of hype.

In the case of CTR vs Accord, they're actually coded different... with the Accord being a C4. I think the hype is more than the Accords engine is derived from the CTR, and not that it's the same engine.

For whatever reason with the L15B7... While a much milder engine... the L15B7s get different intakes, pistons, rods depending on application, resulting in different compression ratios and are mated to different turbos across a line that is designated as "L15B7". Differences constituted a difference from a CTR's C1 vs an Accords C4. What's logic behind this? I don't know man... I'm just a fool on a car forum. Maybe it's significant block differences, and they don't care about the internals of said block where the Accord and CTR block has fundamental differences resulting in the coding difference. I don't really know what the difference between the Accords C4 block and the CTRs C1 are. Oil cooling spray the CTR talks up...? I thought it'd be based on the head. Crank related for accessories... despite them both being transversely mounted? Maybe @aldo 's link will clear it up.

Yeah... I took a look at it. I appreciate you sharing it, but it doesn't really clear anything up. It talks about the major difference being the turbo, injectors and tuning. That would limit the differences to head components and the turbo on it's exhaust manifold... but really giving no clarity to the block differences itself. Again... we've got L15B7s with different turbos, rods, pistons, different capacities for their fueling system (not sure if they're LPFP, cam-driven HPFP or injectors that made the difference) and tune... but they keep the L15B7 designation.

There's some difference in the block itself that was necessary... maybe it's the sleeves? Doesn't seem like it's worth a difference, but I think the J's got a different code when they went from iron to aluminum sleeves between blocks. Again... no idea.

There's differences in the block, the Accord has a balance shaft to reduce vibrations

There's a few other differences as well:
-oil pan
-intake manifold
-intake valves
-slightly different head casting, the R has plates for fuel pump and vacuum pump
-cam shaft profiles, the R camshafts have a dowel pin for the gears whereas the Accord does not
-entire fuel system and injectors
-different spark plug diameters

I would highly doubt that the Accord engine would have forged rods and crank.

Thanks for the reply, yeah there is differences sometime large. I guess that is why it bothers me they keep making it "less special" by throwing around they all got type R engines when they dont. They should do more to control thier brand. I mean I've been at a honda dealer and have had them tell me oh this accord has the same engine as the type R.. no..no it doesn't.

Doesn't all of the press or marketing from Honda say "derived from the Civic TypeR"? I've never seen/heard anything say "this is the CTR engine".
