With Honda’s record of the civic line, the odd number gens tends to be conservative and have issues with the car in general. 7th gen has a major downgrade on the suspension and major transmission issues for base civics. Early 9th gen went really downhill with suspension and was purposely made to look crappy. It felt worse than the Hyundai Voloster. The 6th, 8th, and 10th gens are good. I would stay away from Honda during odd numbers unless they can break their curse
That’s the Microsoft Windows curse right??!

the 8th gen si's had terrible grinding and synchro issues.
And horrible peeling paint
Tbh, my 2011 Si had zero paint issues and I live on Long Island by the Atlantic Ocean lol, and I've heard so many people reporting about the grinding issues, but mine were so rare and seldom in 2nd gear, that it was almost a non issue for me. Guess I was lucky.

They'd be follish to repeat what they did with the 9th gen. Our gen already has the best ride and handling in the segment. It's also the lightest by far. It can also be had for sub 25k. From a performance standpoint, I'd love to see a detuned Type R engine with the Type Rs front suspension in the next Si, but that'd bring the car closer to 30k. Idk how many people would be willing to make that trade off.

Light is pretty subjective. I find the car a bit on the heavier side. The civic si is only roughly 200lbs lighter than the base accords. Idk if grip and weight balance would be an issue if the civic was theoretically 2600-2700lbs. Forza shows it hurts the type r because it doesn’t have enough weight to press down the front wheels which makes it lose quite a bit of grip on stock tires. I know it’s not reflective of the real world but at least it gives a rough idea how it behave in real life.

With how much aero is packed on the Type R, I'd think that would at least offset some of the loss of traction whatever lack of weight would cause.

Forza does a pretty good job simulating how the CTR handles in the real world.

The issue is we just can't expect full traction on front wheel drive from a full throttle launch when you have 306+ horsepower. Cars shift weight onto the rear wheels when accelerating hard at launch.

The Type R has excellent grip and balance when cornering at speed, it is just the launch that it struggles with.

To get a good launch on FWD it requires excellent throttle control and knowledge of the car, can't just blindly mash the pedal and hope.
Yeah, I’m aware of that. It’s one of my main cars I use until s class. I keep the weight because of removing it causes weight transfer issues for me where I start under steering more

I agree, I hope Honda doesn't play it conservative for the 11th gen. The GTI is already at 228 hp, the Veloster N looks really good, and a new WRX is bound to release sooner than later. Granted these cars are thousands of dollars more expensive, they're close enough in price for people to cross-shop. Can't say I'd consider an Si again if it came with a 1.5.
Road and track magazine just release a comparo between the type R, the veloster N and the GTI rabbit edition (228hp) (should have tested the golf R instead i know)
R&T are normally slower with their acceleration timed but they got:

0-60:
R = 5.1 sec
N = 5.3 sec
GTI = 5.9 sec

1/4 mile:
R = 13.7 @ 104.9
N= 14.0 @ 101.9
GTI= 14.5 @ 99.7

If I recall well, the last SI were tested a 15.0 sec or something like that

Honestly I don't think Honda gets enough credit for making the Si as light as it is. It hardly weighs more than a Chevy Spark. The Accords are also insanely light for what they are. I don't know how Honda is doing it because it doesn't seem like anyone else can keep up.

But it looks like you might be autocrossing, which I know nothing about, so I get why you are saying it is subjective.

I drove a GTI a day before driving my Si. In terms of raw performance its hard to argue with the numbers... I'm sure the GTI is a little faster. BUT, the Si's boost comes on MUCH lower in the rev range and to me at least FELT faster - at least in "in town" driving. Where I live there's no 400 series highways or anything like that so its 2/4 lane stop and go pretty much. GTI definitely has the Si beat in terms of the interior but up here in Canada the Rabbit is about 6k more than the Si so for me it was an easy decision - I pick up my Si tomorrow.

My beater still works so imma wait for the new headlights and taillights I'm real torn between a ecoboost mustang or the si... the Eco boost is 500 pounds heavier only 400 and change when u gut the exhaust and do weight reduction
5 less mpg but that's all impressive for being rwd.

Did you drive the manual or DSG?

I just would like to see them bring back a Si hatch for an option. Bump the HP a bit more and keep what they are doing like the 10th gen. If they had made a Si hatch for the 10th gen I would bet Type R sales would be down.
I like the look of the sedan and coupe for the Si, but my opinion the Civic hatch sport is the best looking of all of them for the 10th gen.

IIRC isn't the weight difference primarily in the engine?
