Someone please help me. I honestly don't care if the camera is on all the time. I just need to know if the camera is still power on when the cars off? Also which wire do I need to connect to the
AX-CAM6V.
I connected the black wire to the ground wires on the harness.
I then connected the blue/white wire to the 12v red wire.
I connected the blue/red wire to the camera 6v wire.
The only way I can see the camera is if I press the camera button on the radio.
My question is..... Is the camera always on when the radio is on? Or does it only turn on when I press the camera button?

@joe3456789 You need to connect that Blue/white to the REVERSE lights/switch...not the red 12v. By connecting to the constant 12v it would make sense why it only turns on or shows up on your display when you turn it 'on'.

Also what head unit do you have?

Also check post #147 in this thread.

I believe the camera is powered all the time. If you want the camera to get power and only turn on when the car is out in reverse, you need to hook the blue/white to a true reverse wire. Under the left side of dash you will see this plug and wires. Tap into the green wire. This wire only gets power when in reverse. This is on my HB Sport. Check with multimeter to make sure yours is the same....it should be.

Oh yeah I never used those taps before, if I sell car, can I just take it off? Will it harm anything?

Battery will be fine the way you have it.
It will be fine to remove if you sell if you remove the wire tap. They would never see it anyway. Wired this way makes the camera come on automatically when you put it in reverse...like stock. I 'think' when you wire it like metra says...you have to hit the CAM button to have the camera pic show up on screen.

I understand now, but I also need to connect the purple reverse wire on the back of the radio to the reverse wire connection and the blue/white wire?

Thanks so much for helping me, but if I want it the right way I need to, I also need to connect the purple reverse wire on the back of the kenwood radio to the reverse wire connection underneath the dash and the blue/white wire on the 12v stepdown? I would need to remove the blue\white wire from the red 12v connection?

If I leave it like I have it now where I press cam do you think it would shorten the life of my cam?

looked at it...on Metra 6v stepdown the blue/white is 12v in. blue/red is 6v out.
Blue/white to green reverse wire (one you will tap into in factory harness under dash)
blue/red out to purple reverse wire on HU.
Shifting into reverse will send 12v to AX-CAM6V, CAM6v will send 6v to HU
Camera will only get power when in reverse. Now...some ppl like the cam powered all the time so they can use the rear camera while driving or sitting at a light. Example...if you're in a shady neighboorhood, towing, or hauling bikes.

Thank you bro! I think I'm going to keep it the way u have it now. I called Metra and he said quote on quote the way it's wired now it's only on when I press the button lol. I'm going to check voltage and see if it has power when I don't press the button. Lol you don't think I'll wake up with a dead battery one day? On my lunch I look and mines different, idk if it's different because it's 2019?

Did you ever get this sorted out? I just got a 2019 and I want mine to come one with reverse, not a button.

Thanks!
