Just my two cents...

I don’t think the dealer wants to sell for lower. It seems as though you want a limited car for a cheap price. If it was an ordinary civic you can get the price you want but when the factory is only producing about 12,000 units per year and next year is supposedly the final production year, dealers are in no hurry to sell. The type r is their cash cow to make up for all the other low margin profit cars on the lot.

You should think of it as you are getting a deal as others have paid $50K or more for this car upon release. The smell is not a big deal and can be cleaned. Just get the extended warranty and you are good. The car will eventually have scratches unless you plan to garage it all the time.

After you buy one month later, you won’t care that it’s used. You’ll save on taxes and the ADM and hunting game with dealers. I hated that process up until I bought the car.

I agree, most people had to go through hell to get the car and still do , especially if the car is not readily available or at MSRP in your state. My car is mint and still smells like a new car at 3900 miles. Also just looked on auto trader , no type Rs for sale within 300 miless. Closest one is 400 miles and it is a 2017 with 20k miles for 32k.
next cheapest 2017 11k miles for 35k

I will ask for 37-38k when i sell my 2018 and upgrade to a 2020. Whats funny my saleman at honda told me to put it on for 40k just because the market is ridiculous in Colorado. Its the individual owners GMs, not corporate honda dealers which sell alot of volume are to blame. If i could get on a list and buy the car within the next 6 months locally i would sell it for 34-35k but nope wont happen , its a limited car. Not like i can drive up to a lot and make a deal or pick the color i want.

Move to Canada for the people who dont like capitalism. You can buy a brand new Type R for 32k USD after you save your money in the USA and then move to Canada . Just dont come back you trader lol

but then again it wont be worth you coming back with your cheaper type r since you will have to meet safety inspections , be sure to install your TPMS before crossing and dont forget the 2.5 % tax and other huge fees you will pay at customs which you will now be around 38k for you fancy Canadian type r.

what should one look for during my walk around of a used CTR ?

what are some good questions to ask the dealer about the conditions of the CTR?

Check underneath the front lip, that tends to get scraped on low surfaces and you can negotiate a lower sale price if the lip is chewed up.

Check the rims for curb rash

Check the driver door handle for lazy hand scratches (dings from keys, scratches from nails on the backside of the door handle, etc.).

Check the area of the wing that is susceptible to hit things when the trunk is open, another area where if you identify damage, could help you negotiate the sale price.
